This church is constantly fundraising. The Aikido club is separate from the church but every active member pays a donation to the church that goes back to covering our expenses and thus helps with outreach in the community. Many of the members are proud Christians and leaders within their respective church community. The more students Aikido has the more the church can do. Please take time to let others in the community know that this is available.

Any person interested in Japanese culture or learning the language would have a fantastic time and be an ideal student. We have a wide age and experience per student. For more information please contact/ call Sensei Rich at 402-670-9004 or email at, [email protected]

Watch this short video to gain a better understanding of what United Methodists believe about sin, the state of missing the mark of who God enables us to be. Through confession and pardon, we are assured by God’s grace, which is greater than all our sins!

In the lead up to the Leadership Gathering in October, the Council of Bishops is working with United Methodist Communications to host a series of three webinars open to all United Methodists. These webinars will focus on how the vision statement’s call to “love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously” connects back to the denomination’s mission and Wesleyan theology. The webinars are free and recordings will be made available publicly. Each will be roughly an hour and half in length.

The first webinar is themed "Love Boldly" and explores the foundations of Wesleyan theology and how they shape United Methodist identity today. Participants will reflect on core theological commitments, shared beliefs, and how theology informs who we are as Wesleyans and as The United Methodist Church.

The webinar is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT Saturday, Jan. 24. A recording of the webinar will be available to the public.

Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.

United Methodists are known for offering hospitality. Welcoming people, however, can be a radical act.

There are those who want to limit who "belongs," but Jesus keeps widening the circle. The Samaritan, the injured, the poor, those with questionable reputations, the kids, the outcasts, the thief... all are welcome at Jesus' table. Our job as followers of Jesus is to extend God's welcome to all.

We're praying today for Mark Baldwin (Hershey-Paxton-Sutherland), Jeff Wulf (Kearney Faith), JoEllen Axthelm and Matt Fowler (Kearney First).

Amazing God, horrible things happen every single day, but you always make room for your love, joy, peace, and hope. Help us see your presence amid the suffering in our world. Guide us to be instruments of your grace everywhere we go and empower us to become the people you want us to be. Amen.

We're in prayer today for Lorri Kentner (Kimball-Bushnell-Prairie West), Elmer Armijo Fugon (Lexington), Chuck Squier (Litchfield-Hazard-Ravenna) and Kayla M. Mangrich (Minden).

The year is going with its positive and negative scars of the past. This year has flown over us so quickly as we journey in faith. The events of the year are memorable while others hold us back in joy, anger, and disappointments. The 21st century is in motion even though we have been succumbed to the turmoil of wars, rumors of natural disasters, violence, sicknesses, economic hardships, and various challenges of our time. We are starting the new year leaning on God’s voice saying, “See I am doing a new thing.”

Indeed, we desire new perceptions in our physical, spiritual, and emotional relationships. We love worshiping God from the heart as a token of our being. This new year is a time to rededicate and commit our love of God again. It is a time to seek God while he can still be found. This could be our focus or priority to undertake such a divine task. Jesus said it well, “But seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

The past tends to glue us in its hems, yet God is setting us off this new year on a fresh start. Isaiah reminds us to forget the former things and embrace the new things God is doing. In a way, we accept our past without regrets because it is already behind us. Our past is water under the bridge or spilled milk. We ought to handle our present with confidence and face our future without fear. Good news to seize in this moment is God’s assurance of “Doing a new thing among us.” We therefore embrace the new year with confidence.

A familiar phrase, “In order to go where we have never been, we must do something we have never done.” Well said! If we want to grow into an ever-increasingly closer walk with God, we must allow God to lead us in this promised newness. We must be united in purpose, love, vision, and faith to experience God’s newness. An African proverb puts it this way, “The journey in the sand is begun together.” Why beginning together? Because we have entered the unchartered territories of the year. We need each other along the new year in service, love, prayers, studies, committees, and growing our church. God is leading us along, as we follow singing, “Where he leads us, we will follow.” In response God says, “I will be with you, with you all the way. Remember advent taught us that He is. “Emmanuel, God with us!”

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!

-- Rev. Ever V. Mudambanuki, Topeka Lowman UMC

We're in prayer today for Albert Otshudi Longe (Oxford), Lana Day (Pleasanton-Haven's Chapel), Craig Collins (Scottsbluff) and Daniel Kazadi M'panda (Stratton-Palisade-Haigler).

At the beginning of a new year, many United Methodists renew their covenant with God with a Covenant Service and a recitation of the Wesley Covenant Prayer--a prayer which John Wesley adapted from the Puritan tradition.

The prayer invites us to rededicate our lives to serving as Jesus' representatives in the world. It invites us into participating in self-emptying love.

May the words inspire you and your spiritual journey in the new year. Blessings and Happy New Year.
