Dear Family and Friends of Archangel Gabriel,

Christ is in our midst!

I am writing today to ask for your prayers and, if you are able, your financial support for our own Lyda family, who have been struck by an unexpected tragedy at a particularly vulnerable moment in their lives.

As many of you know, the Lydas have been preparing to leave for St. Vladimir Seminary to answer God's call to ministry. Just a couple weeks before their move, their youngest daughter, Ethne, suffered a devastating accident that has resulted in extensive burns and a lengthy recovery.

They asked me to share the following with our parish family:

As we step out in faith toward seminary, we are facing an unexpected, yet immediate and overwhelming financial burden.

On Monday, July 20, our youngest daughter Ethne sustained second- and third-degree burns over 30% of her body in a horrible accident. After spending four days in the hospital, we were informed that she will need to undergo surgery for a skin graft covering the entirety of her bum and part of her leg. Following the three-hour surgery, she will remain hospitalized for approximately a week as she begins her recovery.

We are one day shy of the expiration of our health insurance benefits and two weeks shy of our move to seminary. We expect significant medical bills will be forthcoming. Having given up our jobs and the benefits they provided, we are now left entirely in the palm of God's hand.

If you are able, please consider partnering with us financially to help cover Ethne's surgery, hospital stay, and recovery costs. Your generosity will directly ease the weight of these medical expenses as we navigate this difficult transition.

Above all, we ask for your continued prayers for a successful recovery and for the swift and complete healing of our sweet girl.

Holy Saints Nikiforos, Panteleimon, and Ambrose, pray to God for us!

As their parish family, we have the privilege of bearing one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2). If you are able to contribute, no gift is too small, and every donation will go directly toward helping the Lyda family meet these expenses. If you are unable to give financially, your prayers are just as needed and deeply appreciated.

May our Lord, the Physician of our souls and bodies, stretch forth His healing hand upon little Ethne, grant wisdom and strength to her medical team, comfort her parents, and bless all those who come to their aid with generous hearts.

Thank you for your prayers, your generosity, and your love for the Lyda family during this difficult time.

In Christ,

-Fr. Chrysostom

As expected, at the conclusion of today’s Diocesan Assembly, the retirement of His Eminence, Archbishop Alexander, has officially taken effect. The Holy Synod of Bishops, meeting in special session, has declared the See of Dallas and the South vacant.

By appointment of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, His Grace, Bishop Gerasim of Fort Worth, has been named Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the South, effective immediately. Accordingly, all clergy of the Diocese are to commemorate His Grace Bishop Gerasim, Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the South, at all divine services in accordance with the usual liturgical order of the Orthodox Church in America.

Therefore, tomorrow, Friday, July 24, 2026, the Diocese will convene to nominate a candidate for election as the next Bishop of Dallas and the South, in accordance with the Statute of the Orthodox Church in America and the Bylaws of the Diocese of the South. Following the nomination by the Assembly, the name of the nominee will be forwarded to the Holy Synod of Bishops for canonical election.

This marks the close of a chapter in the life of our Diocese and the beginning of another. We give thanks to Almighty God for the decade of faithful and sacrificial archpastoral ministry offered by His Eminence, Archbishop Alexander. At the same time, we ask your earnest prayers for His Grace, Bishop Gerasim he assumes the responsibilities of Locum Tenens, for the clergy and faithful of our Diocese, and for the work of tomorrow’s Assembly, that all may be accomplished in peace, good order, and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

As St. Paul reminds us, we are not first the holders of offices or titles, but servants of Christ and stewards of His mysteries. In that spirit, let us continue steadfastly in the work entrusted to us, confident that the Lord, who has guided this Diocese throughout its history, will continue to direct our steps as we seek His will together.

Thank you for your faithful ministry, your prayers, and your cooperation throughout this time of transition.

With love in Christ,
Archpriest Marcus C. Burch
Chancellor, Dioceses of the South
