Starting June 10th, our longtime weekday Bible Study will take on a new form as Around the Word, gathering Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm. Together, we’ll gather around Scripture with prayer, conversation, learning, and even snacks and drinks. You can also join via Zoom.

Around the Word will be particularly helpful for folks who have never participated in a Bible Study before, are still getting acquainted with reading the Bible, or who are wrestling with questions about how to interpret and incorporate the Bible into your own faith journey. Each week, in addition to discussing a major story of the Bible, we will learn helpful tools for reading and understanding the Bible. Of course, there is always room to learn and share to Around the Word is for all of us!

Our Altar of Creation returns this Sunday! 🌍🍀🥕🌺🍅🎨🍞

Like last summer, an Altar of Creation will be placed beneath the main altar. This altar is a space for sharing the gifts of creation and the work of our hands with one another. You are invited to bring offerings to place on the altar before worship or during the offertory. These could be things like garden produce, canned goods, baked treats, flowers, artwork, crafts, or anything homemade that you would like to share with the community. Children are especially encouraged to contribute drawings, coloring pages, or artwork for others to take home.

At the end of each service, everyone is invited to take something from the altar — either for your own household or, even better, to share with a friend, neighbor, or someone who may need encouragement this week. We invite you to take one of Messiah’s postcards as well and include a simple note letting them know the gift comes with love and prayers from Messiah Lutheran Church.

Tonight is our Summer Music Sing-Along. See you at 7pm! All are welcome, including non-choir members and yes, even you who say you don’t/can’t sing! Come enjoy and get introduced to our new musical worship style for the summer.

Summer Music Sing-Along 🎶 June 3rd at 7pm

As we transition into summer, we will introduce new liturgical prayers, rituals, and music at Messiah. Over the summer, our communal worship will draw on the ancient traditions of the Celtic Christians and our music will feature liturgical settings based on the deeply-rooted American spiritual traditions of Appalachia and "Sacred Harp" singing. All -- and we do mean *all* (choir members, non-choir members, singers, non-singers, music lovers of all kinds) are invited to join us at 7pm on June 3rd for a sing-along where we will rehearse and learn our new liturgical music for the summer.

Join us on June 27th for a relaxed summer evening of curiosity, community, and discovery as we explore the hidden world of moths and other nighttime creatures living in Messiah’s prairie and green spaces. 🌙🦋

“Mothing” uses lights and sheets to attract moths and insects up close, revealing a surprising world of colors, patterns, and creatures most of us rarely notice.

This is a come-and-go event, so stay as long or as little as you’d like. At 9:00pm we’ll gather briefly to learn more about moths, mothing, and ways to appreciate and care for the natural world around us. No experience is needed — just come enjoy the evening, spend time with friends, and see what appears in the night.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets, flashlights, bug spray, comfortable outdoor clothing, and any snacks or drinks you’d like. All ages are welcome, so invite friends, neighbors, and family as we experience the beauty of creation after dark.

Today marks the beginning of Pride Month!

Each year, Messiah Lutheran Church celebrates Pride Month on the last Sunday of June for what we call "Reconciling in Christ Sunday." This is our annual opportunity to renew our commitment to the baptismal call to "strive for justice and peace in all the earth." We take this time to give thanks for the gifts and witness of LGBTQIA+ people, especially those who are members and leaders within our congregation.

In addition to renewing our commitment to speak for justice for our LGBTQIA+ siblings, we recognize that our congregation's commitment to justice is far-reaching. Each year, we plan to use our RIC Sunday as a time to additionally draw our attention to other groups of people who have historically been misunderstood, silenced, excluded, or harmed by Christian communities.

This year, our Reconciling in Christ Sunday will offer an opportunity to learn how the Church can better support those living with mental illness and substance use disorders. To help us with that learning, Unity Recovery will be with us to tell us about their work in our community and how we can get involved.

Join us on June 28 for a morning of learning about the work of Unity Recovery and for a time of prayer and thanksgiving as we strive, with God's help, to bring about God's reign of justice and healing for ALL people.
