Tomorrow at 10:30 we celebrate for the first time at Messiah a new liturgical feast day: Creation in Christ Sunday! 🌍🌌🪐🌳🌻🍃🦋🐾🌊

Our worship service will draw our minds to ponder how God creates and sustains everything that is—visible and invisible—out of pure love and graciousness. We will also call to mind our own privileged roles as stewards and guardians of God’s creation and will recommit ourselves to the holy work of protecting and advocating for vulnerable habitats and creatures.

At the end of our service, we will bless these seeds to be for us Seeds of Hope. Take them home with you to feed the birds, scatter in a garden, or simply act as a reminder to you of the hopeful expectation we share with all creatures that God will make to grow from the seeds of our work and faith our grief and pain, a beautiful New Heaven and New Earth.

Want an easy way to make a global impact? 🌍🙏🏼

By collecting and donating items for our Lutheran World Relief care kits, you have a chance to take part in a global effort to provide people with basic hygiene supplies and comfort when they are facing displacement or disaster.

Supplies needed include:
• light-weight bath towels, dark color recommended
• bath-sized bars of soap, in original wrapping
• adult-sized toothbrushes in original packaging
• sturdy combs
• metal nail clippers

Drop off these items in the narthext until September 20th. Then, after our service on September 20th, stick around as we, together, assemble these items into the care kits that will be sent off around the world!

Burn out is real. It impacts us in the moment, and often beyond.
If you would like to find some space to sit in calm and connect to others in a non-judgemental and peaceful environment.
The session is 90 minutes, free, and open to all.

Today is the ancient Feast of Creation. 🌍🌿🌳🌻

For nearly 1,500 years, our Eastern Orthodox siblings have observed this day to give thanks to God for the gift of Creation. In recent years, leaders from many Christian traditions have sought to make this liturgical celebration more universally observed throughout Christendom, especially in an effort to form a more unified appreciation for the created world and a shared commitment to advocate for environmental protection and justice.

Following the adoption of this day by the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation, this year will be the first year that ELCA congregations have been given official liturgical guides and encouraged to observe this new ecumenical feast day.

While normally observed on September 1st, at Messiah, this Sunday, we will observe this feast as "Creation in Christ Sunday". Our prayers, scripture readings, and music will draw us to reflect on God the Creator and how we are called to walk humbly on this earth as its stewards and protectors. Join us this weekend for this historic moment of celebrating the newest ecumenical feast day across all of Christendom!
