We cannot escape our identity. We cannot live beyond how we see ourselves. However, if we can begin to see ourselves as God sees us, we will begin to live with that understanding. God is able to open our eyes to see ourselves as He sees us. That will make a huge difference in how we live.

Looking at the year past the the year to come, we make a decision, consciously or unconsciously, to just stay where we are or to keep growing.

What is God saying to you?

That may be the most important question you can ask as you look forward to this new year. It will require time from your normal schedule to be able to listen. Find that best quiet time for you - late night or early morning, perhaps even mid-day. It may take several days. Have your paper, notepad , laptop or voice recorder handy.

What do you sense that God desires of you? Along what path is He leading you?

REST
An interesting concept. The word brings to mind many things: sleeping, not doing anything, waiting, relaxation, a break, and peace. There are, perhaps other things that come to mind, but today these thoughts will suffice.
Jesus said, "I will give you rest." The condition that must be met first is to come to Him.
Having trouble sleeping? Too busy? Anxious? Troubled? Jesus promised to give rest, a peace in the middle of storms.
As we look for rest, a peace, we are promised that Jesus will provide this need if we look to Him. Rest easy in His promise.

Someone has said, "Hope is all I have."

If our hope is in the right place, the right person, it is all we need.

God says in Isaiah 57, "I don't want you to give up in complete despair. ... I will heal you, lead you and give you comfort . . . start singing my praises. . . . I, the Lord, have promised that none who are evil will live in peace."

Thank you, Lord, for hope.

Today my word is HOPE.

Job was upset with his friends for feeding him empty hope. We are faced with false or baseless hopes every day. We hope that a friend or relative will not fail us in some regard. We hope that certain things in our day will go our way and are many times disappointed. We even say that our hope is in God, meaning that He will do things the way we want them done.

The Word of God speaks repetitively about hope. The true hope of which the Bible speaks is the confidence that God will accomplish His purposes. In other words, rather than God supporting our agenda, we support God’s agenda. We may not always understand what God is doing, however, because we believe/know/understand that He is GOD, we trust in Him and support His agenda over any other agenda

What are we hoping for today? In what or where is our hope?

A great reminder this morning- Luke 1:37
Reading in several translations brings several things to mind: in the Amplified version, and others, the word "with" is important. We know that nothing is impossible FOR God. After all, He is omnipotent. Yet WITH God, that's us working with God/in Christ everything is possible - See Philippians 4:13 and 2 Corinthians 1:20.
Dwell on this thought and be encouraged.

Something to chew on:
One person a year who hears and answers God's call to follow Jesus would be reason enough for God to have called this church into existence. This church has little, if any, value as an organization - we must be salt and light. Our singular purpose for existing is for God to help Himself to lives.
Will we allow Him to help Himself to us, or are we more concerned with our own ideas of what we are going to be?
