🔎 Today's Biblical Discovery
Before Joshua ever received God's battle plan...
He fell on his face in worship.

I've read the story of Jericho for years, but I had never stopped to notice the order.
Before the strategy... came surrender.
Before the victory... came worship.

Sometimes the greatest discoveries in Scripture aren't found in what God tells us to do... They're found in the posture He asks us to have before He tells us anything at all.

📖 Today's Scripture: Joshua 5:13–15 (NASB)

I'd encourage you to read this short passage before or after today's Five More Minutes and ask yourself:
"What was God preparing in Joshua before the battle ever began?"

As we wrap up this week, I'm also reminded of something beautiful.

All week long, God has been showing us that He is already at work before we can see it.
He's already providing.
He's already preparing.
He's already going before His people.

God often prepares our hearts before He reveals His plan.

After Jesus fed more than five thousand people...
He told His disciples something that has intrigued me.
"Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost."
— John 6:12 (NASB 1995)

I've been asking myself...
Why?

If Jesus could multiply bread and fish with a word...
why bother collecting the leftovers?

That small detail reveals something beautiful about the heart of gratitude.
Sometimes the greatest discoveries in Scripture aren't found in the miracle itself...
They're found in what Jesus says next.

Most of us remember the story of Joshua leading Israel across the Jordan River.
But what if we've been remembering it, but in the wrong order?
Did God part the river first...
or did the priests step into the water first?
That little detail changes the way we understand faith.

Sometimes the greatest discoveries in Scripture aren't hidden.
They're found in the details we've simply read too quickly.

Most of us remember Jesus feeding the five thousand...
The Transfiguration...
Or Peter walking on water.
But tucked away in Matthew 17 is a remarkable story that many believers have completely forgotten or skipped past.
When it came time to pay the temple tax, Jesus didn't simply hand Peter a coin.
He sent him fishing.
Why?
What was Jesus teaching Peter—and what is He teaching us?
Sometimes the greatest discoveries in Scripture aren't found in the stories we don't know...
They're found in the details we've never slowed down to notice.

Have you ever noticed...
that the ram wasn't created after Abraham obeyed?

It was already in the thicket.

Sometimes the most beautiful truths in Scripture are found in the details we read right past.

You may notice something you've never seen before.

Most of us think preparation is simply what happens BEFORE the important moment.
But what if we've been looking at it backwards?

Before David ever faced Goliath...
he walked down to a brook and picked up five smooth stones.
He only used one.
So why did God include that detail?

Maybe because there was something just as important happening BEFORE the battle.
While David was preparing for the giant... God was preparing David.

That's how God often works.
He shapes our character while we're waiting.
He deepens our faith while we're planning.
He teaches dependence while we're preparing.

"The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But victory belongs to the LORD."
— Proverbs 21:31 (NASB)

Preparation matters.
But our confidence is never in our preparation.
Our confidence is in the God who goes with us.
While you're preparing for what God has next, God is preparing you.

What if one of the reasons we miss God's provision… is because we're looking for something new instead of recognizing what He's already placed in our hands?

When Elisha met the desperate widow, he didn't begin by asking,
"What do you need?"

He asked,
"What do you have in the house?"
— 2 Kings 4:2 (NASB 1995)

At first, her answer sounded almost hopeless:
"...your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil."

Nothing…

except.

The very thing she almost overlooked became the very thing God used to provide for her.

How often do we do the same?

We overlook:
the relationships God has given us,
the abilities He's entrusted to us,
the opportunities sitting right in front of us,
and the countless ways He has already been faithful.

Sometimes gratitude begins when we stop focusing on what's missing and start recognizing what God has already provided.

God often begins His greatest work with what we almost overlooked.

Every morning, the Israelites walked outside their tents with the same assignment:
Gather today's manna.
Not tomorrow's.
Not enough for next week.
Just enough for today.
Why?
Because God was teaching His people something far greater than how to gather food.
He was teaching them to depend on Him every single day.

"Give us this day our daily bread."
— Matthew 6:11 (NASB)

It's easy to remember seasons when God felt especially close.

A sermon that stirred your heart.
A season of spiritual growth.
A time when prayer came naturally.

Those memories are gifts.

But yesterday's walk with God was never meant to replace today's.

**Yesterday's faith can encourage you, but today's faith is what strengthens you.**

The good news is this: The God who faithfully provided manna every morning is the same God who faithfully meets with His children today.
