God is our safe place and our strength.
God is always right here with us when we are afraid or in trouble.
So, with God’s help, we can face our fears.
Even when our schools, our communities, or our world feel shaken.
Even when the rivers roar and the mountains tremble
we remember that we are not alone.
God is right here with us.
The God who made everything is our strong place and our shelter.
Sometimes there are frightening things we cannot understand,
and sometimes people hurt one another.
But God does not leave us alone in the midst of our fear.
God says: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Take a deep breath.
(pause- take a deep breath, hold it, count to four, and release breath -pause)
Be still for a moment.
Remember that God is with us,
and God calls us to be people who bring peace, comfort, and care.
The Lord, who is with us is our safe shelter.

Hello Friends,

Today has been a very difficult day in Waynesboro. And for so many, tomorrow and the many days ahead will be hard, too. I want to extend my deepest gratitude for the prayers, support, and care for the Westwood community that have been truly amazing.

In light of the events at Westwood Hills Elementary School today, Westminster Presbyterian Church will host a Service of Peace and Comfort in our sanctuary on Thursday, September 3, from 7:00–7:45 p.m. Child care is provided for children from birth through 4 years old. A prayground is offered in the back of our sanctuary with small chairs, tables, and coloring sheets. The service will also be livestreamed for those in our community who wish to remain at home.

Area clergy will be present to help lead the service, along with Westminster staff and members. Additional clergy will be available after the service in the chapel and social hall for a time of prayer and support for staff and families, as needed.

Thank you for being the good in such a broken world. I am sending my love out to you all.

We saw our favorite animals and added a few new ones to our list at the Metro Richmond Zoo . Feeding the giraffes, goats, and cute antelopes was a definite highlight of the day.

HARVEST OF HOPE INTERGENERATIONAL MISSION TRIP
Massanetta Springs Conference Center, September 25–27, 2026

Harvest of Hope is a faith-based service and learning experience that provides opportunities to take action, participate in hands-on mission activities, and help rescue and share nutritious food with people in need. Staff from the Society of St. Andrew organize and lead this weekend event at Massanetta Springs.

The Shenandoah Presbytery Committee on Mission and Outreach (CMO) invites individuals and families to join us for a weekend of service, learning, and fellowship. CMO wants to partner with churches, individuals, and families who attend Harvest of Hope by reducing the registration fee to just $50 per individual or $100 per family. (The total cost per participant is $175.)

The mission weekend begins on Friday evening, September 25, as participants get to know one another and take part in a hands-on mission project, such as preparing potato bags for harvest. On Saturday morning, participants will glean in a local orchard or field for approximately two hours before enjoying a bagged lunch. Saturday afternoon includes a visit to a nonprofit organization that benefits from the food gathered through the Society of St. Andrew's gleaning ministry. Participants will also enjoy free time on Saturday afternoon, followed by dinner and an evening of learning, fellowship, and faith reflection. The retreat concludes with worship on Sunday morning.

endhunger.org/hoh. Be sure to check the box at the end of the registration page indicating that you are a participant with Shenandoah Presbytery. This will take you to a separate webpage where you can complete your registration at the reduced trip cost.

Dear Westminster,

We are saddened to share that Gary Collins died on Monday, June 29, on the Hospice Unit at UVA Hospital. We will miss his quick humor, servant heart, and love for all God's creatures great and small, especially dogs and fish of every kind. A celebration of Gary's life will be planned in the coming months.

Our prayers are with his children, Elizabeth and Alex; his granddaughter, Elliot; and his great-grandson, Courtland.
