Pastor Smith has served Zion since May 2018. Before coming to Zion, he served as pastor of two churches in New Jersey. and Ph.D. at Princeton Seminar

Situated in the scenic rural countryside of Augusta County (three miles north of downtown Waynesboro), Zion is a small-town, family-friendly church that is lively and welcoming! We worship every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. We utilize liturgy in our Sunday worship services. It provides a biblical, orderly structure that consists of four parts: Gathering, Word, Meal (Holy Communion), and Sending. As Christians, we confess Jesus Christ; we proclaim the good news that we are saved by grace; and we act in love on behalf of our neighbor. As Lutherans, we teach and preach these convictions in light of the cross. Our Lutheran theology is meaningful, hopeful, and distinctive. Because Jesus came into this world to bring us grace — because God so loved the world — we of all people are optimistic and hopeful for what God will do for the sake of the world.

Today's sermon, "The Image of God at Work", was on our minds and in our hearts following worship as we celebrated in gratitude the 26 years of work by Judy Sheets in dedicated service to Zion as our Treasurer. The Fellowship Committee held a wonderful luncheon to honor Judy, and we welcomed in our new Treasurer, Kari Hite. Thank you, Judy, for your many years doing God's work at Zion... and thank you, Kari for committing your service to carry us onward and forward.

We have begun the "Ordinary Time" of the Liturgical Year, when we go out and spread the good news. Now that Jesus has gone up, and the Holy Spirit has come down, it remains for the church to go out. We invite you to join us for worship this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. This Sunday marks the transition from the festival seasons of the church year (that focus on Jesus and what he has done for us) to what we call "ordinary time" or "the time of the church". Now that Jesus has gone up, and the Holy Spirit has come down, it remains for the church to go out. The sermon title is “Worship as Loyalty to God and Love for Others.”
