Philadelphus Presbyterian Church will hold its annual homecoming on August 3, 2025. The Rev. Dr. Mike Ahlberg, one of the two who supply the pulpit at Philadelphus, will bring the morning message.
The morning service will begin at 11:00 AM. Following the service, there will be a covered dish meal at the pavilion at Scotland Hall.
All are invited to bring your favorites: meats, vegetables, casseroles, and desserts and join us. There will be a church singing after the meal.

Dr. Mike Ahlberg was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1956. Upon graduating from the University of Colorado in 1978 with a B.A. in History, he moved to Biloxi, MS, where he was involved with beach evangelism with Campus Crusade for Christ.

In 1979 he enrolled at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree, and then later, a Dr. of Ministry degree. Also, he was ordained into the Presbyterian Church in America in 1982.

For the last 40+ years, Mike has served in various PCA churches from Carrollton to Clarksdale, to Union, to Cheraw, SC, and back to Magee, MS. Mike is an honorably retired minister in Grace Presbytery, and still preaches in various places, most regularly in the Waynesboro vicinity.

Mike is married to his sweetheart, Robin, a Colorado girl he has known since the time they attended the same church together back in the 70's. They have four children, Clint, Cori, Daniel and Michael, who are spread out from Colorado to Mississippi, to South Carolina.

Today, Robin and Mike live near Wesson, MS. In his spare time, Mike is currently working on a new translation of the New Testament, and has begun writing a book about Revelation. He hopes, the Lord willing, that he will be able to preach, teach, write and translate for a long time.

Philadelphus Presbyterian Church's annual homecoming is Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 11:00 A. M.
Our guest speaker is the Rev. Dr. Steve Jussely. Steve's father, the late Rev. Ed Jussely, preached at Philadelphus in the 1940's and 1950's. Steve's bio will be published in the Wayne County News in the near future.
As always, a covered lunch will be served at the pavilion after the service.

Philadelphus does not have service on 5th Sunday. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this practice was started decades ago to give each preacher some vacation time during the year.
Easter Sunday falls on 5th Sunday this year. We will NOT have Easter service at Philadelphus. We invite you to attend Easter service either at another church in the community, in town, or in the county as we will do.

The Rev. Philip E. McRae has accepted the invitation to preach at our annual homecoming on the first Sunday of August, August 6, 2023, at 11:00 AM.

I haven't posted anything in a long time but will try to do better in the future.
Homecoming is always the first Sunday in August; this year it's on August 7 at 11:00. The Rev. Dr. Robert McRae will deliver the morning sermon. "Dinner on the grounds" will follow the service.

PHILADELPHUS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CANCELS 80th HOMECOMING

We regret to announce that due to the coronavirus, we will be cancelling homecoming at Philadelphus Presbyterian Church this year, the first Sunday in August. We will miss seeing family and friends but think it is best not to possibly put people in danger of contracting the virus as it would be impossible to socially distance, especially during the covered dish dinner we always have. We look forward to seeing all of you in 2021.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, and following the advice of the President and his advisors to all of us, we will NOT be having a 199th anniversary celebration lunch after service on Sunday as advertised in the last Wayne County News. AND all of our members are over 60, so we are also canceling our March 22 Sunday service. We don't have a 5th Sunday service, so the next service will be the 1st Sunday in April, unless something changes. So we will have about 3 weeks before another service. We pray this national emergency will be over or much better by then. We will post an update when needed. Thank you for understanding.
