When you go through trouble, and when life makes you angry, do not hide from God. Tell Him how you feel. He can handle it. He will never leave or forsake you. God is our shelter in the time of trouble. Do not run away from God, run to Him instead. As our pastor says, โ€œBe a worshipper, not a worrier!โ€

How can you be a real Christian and have a real relationship with God? How can you prevent hypocrisy? You can do it, by walking closely with Him. By keeping short accounts. By repenting as soon as you know you have sinned. By praying and studying His Word. By listening for His voice. By spending time with Him. By making plans with Him. By obeying Him. By being filled with His Spirit and leaning on Him when life is hard. These things will help you keep your relationship with God real.

Finally, you need to practice the presence of God. That means that every hour of every day, you need to remember that Jesus is with you. โ€œTake the Lord God with you everywhere you go.โ€ Practice talking to Him like He is your best friend, because He is. Realize that God sees everything you do. You do not escape His attention. When you sin, God sees it. When you go through hard situations, God sees it. When you show love and compassion, God sees it. He is always watching you. You are never alone. Realize that. Reverence Him. Embrace His closeness to you. If you live like Jesus is with you all the time, it will keep you completely real with Him, because you will know you cannot hide from Him.

I cannot leave this out: ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit. This will give you power to live right and power to be His witness in the earth. The Holy Spirit was sent from heaven to be your teacher and guide on earth. He is the One who convicts of sin, draws men to Christ, empowers and gives spiritual gifts to believers, and enables us to do the work of the church on earth.

When you sin, you need to repent right away. Do not let the sin fester. Confess your sin and forsake it immediately. If you have allowed sin to grow, you must repent and yank it out of your life. Do not play with it. This will keep your spirit clean and fresh. God does not dwell in unclean temples. Every day, reexamine your life and see where you may have sinned. Ask God to reveal any sin you do not remember. He will do it faithfully. When God exposes your sin, do not try to justify it. Just agree with God and with the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Thank Him, humble yourself, and repent. This keeps you open to Godโ€™s Spirit. It keeps your relationship with Him growing.

Scripture: Galatians 5:1; Romans 6:12-14; James 4:7; Romans 8:31-39

You are not scared into holiness; you are loved into relationship with Christ. His love draws us out of sin and makes us want to live in a way that pleases Him. Because you do not want to grieve the Holy Spirit, you should turn away from sin as quickly as possible. Sin brings bo***ge, but salvation brings freedom. Now that you are free in Christ, guard your liberty by repenting of sin and turning from it. If you fall, get back up. Pray for strength to resist sin and the devil, and trust that God will help you stand stronger the next time.
