Join us next Monday, June 1, at 7pm for Sacred Art of the Baroque!
Join us for a presentation of sacred art during the Baroque period (17th-18th centuries), when the Catholic Church sought to draw in parishioners by commissioning some of the most beautiful and ornate sacred art of all time. Julia LoMonaco will discuss the history and biblical stories behind iconic works in Italy and how they strengthened the Church and changed the trajectory of religious art.
Julia LoMonaco is the Assistant Curator at the Cleve Carney Museum at the College of DuPage. There she has assisted with the creation of several exhibitions, including WARHOL and Hokusai and Ukiyo-e, The Floating World. Julia has also worked on publications and exhibitions at several other museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Smart Museum of Art. She holds a Master of Arts in Humanities with a specialization in Art History from the University of Chicago.
