During September and October, John Thompson’s artwork will be on exhibit in our Narthex, the “front foyer” of our Meetinghouse. John and his wife Nathalie are long-time First Parish members.
John is a painter and printmaker whose art explores the natural world. Childs Gallery (Boston) described his work as follows: “Thompson’s multilayered prints and paintings evoke the fleeting beauty of small moments in nature: the play of light on leafy branches, the rustle of wind through grass, the ripple of raindrops across a pond.”
His work is in public and private collections, and he has exhibited in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally. An exhibition of his work will be featured at the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery in New York City through September 30.

The First Parish Pantry Garden will once again benefit from Stop & Shop’s Bloomin’ 4 Good Program. For the month of September, the Pantry Garden team will receive $1 for every specially marked bouquet of flowers sold at Wayland’s Stop & Shop. The Stop & Shop program supports community efforts to fight hunger.
In late summer, our Pantry Gardeners sell garlic and flowers at Russell’s Farmers Market. Proceeds buy CSA shares from Stearns Farm in Framingham. This produce is in turn donated to local food pantries.

Honest, accurate information about sexuality changes lives. It fosters healthy relationships, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, improves decision-making, and can even save lives.
This fall, First Parish in Wayland will offer Our Whole Lives (OWL), a values-based sexuality-education curricula created for use in secular settings. The sessions are designed for students in grades 7 through 9.
The program models and teaches caring, compassion, respect, and justice. Topics include body image, interacting online, bullying/bystander responsibilities, and consent education.
Parent orientation will be held on September 27 and October 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. Student classes start on October 18, and will be held on Sundays, 4 to 5:30 p.m., from October to June, at First Parish in Wayland. The registration deadline is September 13.
