The Wayland Museum & Historical Society will host its 2026 Annual Meeting tonight, May 27.
Following our brief Annual Meeting (7:00 PM – 7:30 PM) dedicated to our organization's year-in-review and votes by members of the WHS, we invite members and the community to join us for an evening with Marilynne Roach at 7:30 pm. Rev. Samuel Parris lived in Wayland after leaving Salem, having played a central role in the infamous witch trials. Generations of commentators have delighted in depicting him as an arch-villain. What exactly did Parris do during the witch trials – and not do? What was the situation in the Village that resulted in such an avoidable tragedy? How did he end up in Wayland and in the Noyes-Parris House, the oldest house in our town?

Marilynne K. Roach, writer, researcher, illustrator, and author of "Six Women of Salem," will address these questions and more. This presentation follows the brief annual meeting at First Parish of the Wayland Museum and Historical Society, from 7 - 7:30 p.m. Members of the community are invited to join for the presentation.

First Parish is located at 225 Boston Post Road in Wayland, at the corner of Routes 20 and 27.

Join us for a musical afternoon at First Parish in Wayland on Sunday, May 31 at 3 p.m. The “soirée musicale” takes place in the Vestry, our downstairs community room. We'll have light refreshments and musical performances by members and small ensembles from the Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music groups. There will be a variety of different musical performances by individuals and small groups, on various instruments, and in different styles and genres, from Bach to the Beatles and beyond.

Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music is a musical organization for adult beginners and adults returning to their instruments after years or decades of not playing, and includes a concert band and a string ensemble, as well as other smaller ensembles. It is directed by Linda Murdock and Diane Muffitt, long-time band director at the Wayland Middle School. This concert is a chance for the members to perform a concert of solo and small ensemble music in a coffeehouse style setting. Everyone is welcome. Please join us for an enjoyable social afternoon sharing our music! There is no charge. First Parish is located at 225 Boston Post Road, at the intersection of Routes 20 and 27.

On May 31, half the Sunday offering will be donated to UU Mass Action, which is a state-wide UU organizing and advocacy group whose mission is to mobilize the 20,000 UUs and 142 congregations in Massachusetts to confront oppression. All of the organization’s work is in partnership with larger campaigns and coalitions.
First Parish shares its offering with one organization twice each month, or two social justice organizations once each. This ensures that everyone has the opportunity to generously support these vital community organizations and causes.
