Honor feels foreign in a culture that rewards contempt. But the way of Jesus calls us to something better than idolizing our families of origin or demonizing them... learning to humanize them is how we practice honor. When the church cultivates a culture of honor, generations are treasured, wounds are named, and people can flourish for a long time in the same place.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is only good news when someone hears it. On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Texas finally received the news that they had already been declared free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The tragedy was that the promise of freedom hadn’t yet reached them. That’s what makes Juneteenth a powerful reminder for the Church. Through Jesus Christ, freedom from sin, shame, and death has already been secured, but millions have yet to hear the good news. As Paul asks in Romans 10:14-15, “How can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?” Juneteenth is not only a day to celebrate freedom, it is a renewed call for followers of Jesus to carry the message of true freedom to those who have not yet heard.

Sabbath is not a reward for getting everything done, it is a grace-filled starting place with God. This week, we were reminded that our value is not found in our productivity, but in the presence of the One who calls us his children.

⚠️ Important Weather Update ⚠️

Due to rain forecasted, New Life will be gathering inside tomorrow morning at regular service times (9:15 & 11AM) instead of outside in the street. We can’t risk the outdoor equipment getting rained on.

This will be a family style service so Kids classrooms will not be open, we invite you to worship with your kids in service (we will have activity bags available for the kiddos).
