Beauty in Poverty

Beauty in Poverty Beauty in Poverty, my current ministry has it's roots in Kenya, Africa in 2005, when I first felt the Lord leading me to start painting orphans. LOVE. Love them.

I knew I was to start taking photos of all the orphans I met, as well as the destitute children of the slums. I knew I was to open this calling up to orphans from ALL nations. In 2016, 11 years later, the Lord told me to add the homeless to this group of paintings. He desires to have paintings of His children in people's homes and businessses to show His perspective on those less fortunate. He wan

ts people to see that we are ALL His children, and we all bleed the same blood. We have a common denominator - our humanity. He loves the homeless population, whether they caused their own demise, or just had a string of bad circumstances that landed them on the streets. As I meet these new homeless friends, the Lord shows me how to paint them in a positive light - highlighting their personalities and smiles. I don't want to focus on the negative aspect of their life, because if you look a little closer, under the surface, the light of their humanity shines through. When they begin talking about Jesus, their families, or their children, their eyes begin to smile. They are just as much human as you and I. God's heart bleeds for them because He knows how much they need Him. His heart breaks for those 4-year old children of the slums that carry their 1-year old sibling around all day as they scavage for food. He sits with the homeless man in 7 degree weather on the freezing streets of Dallas. So you may ask yourself, "Why doesn't God do something about all this poverty and pain?" I believe this is where we come in. Those of us who are more fortunate. Even if we have very little to give, there is always something more we can do for others. I believe God expects us to be their advocate. He calls us to deliver the oppressed and to feed the poor. We must not look at the enormity of the issue of poverty, but rather step up to do what we can do no matter how trivial it may seem. Give money, give time, give resources, anything to ease the pain and suffering. Listen to them. Hold their hand. Be presesnt. Let them feel the love of Jesus. Become an advocate for the ones who have no voice. Every orphan I have met just needs an advocate. I am only one person, but my life goal is to shine the light on the blight that is poverty. To show the BEAUTIFUL faces, in a permanent portrait, of the unfortuneate of our society, and around the world. Would you join me?

50% of the proceeds will go to pay for arranged housing for the homeless, or go to help the costs of the orphanage who is raising that particular child.

I haven't posted much in the last 3 years since I lost my son💔, but that doesn't mean I am not out serving the homeless population. As a matter of fact , we have MUCH going on. I am now the official ministry in charge of our homeless encampment in Palmer, Texas. We are on the property of Texas church, Ace Elliot's land, he so graciously is loaning to us. He had many church camp type buildings and a small stage, and we are finishing the central building as a dining hall. We have just completed the framing and siding, where the men will gather to eat, cook and fellowship. We are extremely excited with how the Lord has been answering prayers. We are very grateful to Steve Mensik, a master carpenter friend of mine, who spearheaded the carpentry work. Now we are trying to raise money so we can insulate this building, for those 20 degree Texas nights.
I am still doing ministry in Dallas with the homeless and today we started something REALLY exciting. I knew that Our Calling and other shelters were closed the day after Thanksgiving, so we planned a trip up there to find my friends under the bridges.
I had the idea of taking my new homeless friends to meet my old homeless friends and VOILA, a new ministry is born!!!! Scott and John were so excited about doing it and my friend Susan Frederick helped as well. HOMELESS SERVING HOMELESS. WE took turkey, baked beans, potato salad and cranberry sauce. Everyone was ecstatic!! We served at least 60 to 70 individuals and they were as happy as we were doing it.
We are already planning our next big day.

Walter , aka "Cowboy", is back in Dallas, from Waco. I was sooooo excited to see him today!!!!! He is one of the sweetest spirits I have ever known. Walter is a veteran of the Vietnam war . His painting is on sale !!!! If you buy this painting, Walter will receive HALF the money to get back to his sisters farm in Virginia. Walter's painting is one of my favorites. I'll post the painting in the comments.

So excited, 7 years after building my studio, I finally got tile on my floors. My son Julian Quinn laid them. And he painted my walls. Leslie Bruce made my cushion and window treatment . I couldn't be happier with the results. Just have to do some fun writing/designs on the walls and I'm calling it. Such a blessed place to work.

I am very excited about my new paintings that will hopefully help our friends get off the streets soon. I am painting all three of these guys next. Ricky is a Vietnam vet, Susan is a loner but very sweet , and Cecelia is 52 years old and has been in a wheelchair for years. Cecelia's situation breaks my heart so much I can't stand it. She needs adult diapers bc she has a continence issue and she sleeps in a tent under Dawson bridge in this 110 degree heat. I can't even. I help her every week I am up there. My sweet friend Elizabeth Scenters brought all her food leftover from her missionary fundraiser and we had a beautiful day helping a lot of people. Thank you for your kind sweet heart Elizabeth. My son Julian Quinn helped us as well.

The faces of homelessness. Most people think that the homeless are all sad and depressed, and some definitely need encouragement and lots of Love. But these friends are not without hope. The smiles and dancing eyes show the joy that still lies in that soul. Do what you can today to encourage someone that's not where they want to be. Lift them up and help raise their Hope levels. It'll do more for you than you can imagine.

Meet Billy. One of the sweetest guys I've ever met. His story entails a violent past that haunts him physically. His left leg had been shot , seven bullets ripped the flesh off his shin and calf.
He can't wear a shoe he wears a plastic cast type covering. We prayed for God to do a creative miracle and called down total restoration of that leg and foot. Agree with us in prayer. I can't wait to paint him.
