The "gates of Hades" in Matthew 16:18 is a euphemism for "death," as seen in the Old Testament (Job 17:16; Isaiah 38:10) and Second Temple literature (Wisdom 16:13; Psalms of Solomon 16:2).
In Matthew 16:13, Jesus asks his disciples, "But you, who do you say that I am?" and Peter answers, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Then in response to Peter's statement about the "living God," Jesus says, "I will build my church and the gates of Hades will not overcome it" (16:18). In other words, "I will build my church and not even death itself will overcome it because I am the Son of the living God."
Jesus died, but he rose again and is building his church! One by one, the apostles each died, but Jesus is still building his church. Many, many great church leaders have died, but Jesus is still building his church, because not even death itself can stop his work!
As we mourn the death of John MacArthur, one of the greatest church leaders of our day, we are reminded that the Son of the living God is still building his church. And he will sanctify his bride completely, and we will be kept sound and blameless at his coming, because he is faithful; he will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).
He is faithful! He is faithful! and he will do it.
At Bell Tower Bible we are encouraged by the legacy of John MacArthur, a man who served and finished well. And with his death we are reminded of the Son of the living God, the firstfruits of the resurrection, the guarantor of our resurrection--a resurrection unto life for all the believing ones.
We will add diligence to our zeal, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the Lord, because not even death itself will stop the building of his church.
Still we pray, "Come, Lord Jesus."

We boldly teach the following:
"We believe that there is one, and only one, eternally self-existent God whose name is Yahweh. Yahweh eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each of these persons is equal in every divine perfection, yet distinct and harmonious in every divine work."
In other words, we are boldly Trinitarian.

We boldly teach the following:
"Every word of every part of Scripture, that is all of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, in the original autographs is God-breathed. Thus the Bible is fully inerrant, authoritative, infallible, and sufficient. It is the perfect rule of all faith and practice.
"We believe that Scripture should be interpreted in an historical-grammatical manner, which seeks to discover the meaning of the passage as the original author would have intended and as the original audience would have understood."

Thank you to all who participated in our special weekend. May we all remain faithful to the Rock who makes us faithful.

Big weekend! Join us Sunday for a celebration of God's Faithfulness. He is eternally faithful, and he has shown his faithfulness to our church for 150 years.
Founded in the 1870's, our church has been a place of corporate worship, strengthening and encouragement of believers, and evangelism in our community and around the globe.
We take no credit unto ourselves, but rather exclaim with Scripture, "What great things God has done!" (Numbers 23:23).
We have a kickoff, celebration dinner on Saturday (reservations required). Then our Sunday services begin at 9:30 AM.
Join us as we celebrate the faithfulness of God. "The Rock--his work is perfect" (Deuteronomy 32:4).

Our Sesquicentennial Celebration is almost here!
We welcome you to join us April 5th & 6th for a celebration of God’s Faithfulness (1875-2025). Truly, the LORD’s faithfulness reaches to the clouds (Psalm 36:5)!
Saturday, April 5, doors will open at 5:30 PM with dinner and program beginning at 6:00 PM. If you have not already secured a ticket for this dinner, please do so ASAP. There are only a handful of seats remaining, and the deadline to register is this Saturday, March 22nd.
Sunday, April 6, worship will resume with our regular services at 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM, as we continue with the theme of God’s Faithfulness. After our Family Worship Service at 10:30, we will enjoy lunch together in our Fellowship Hall. Of course, there are no tickets needed to join us on Sunday for worship (or for lunch).
We look forward to happy reunions with friends of this church from multiple states and surrounding communities, but most of all we look forward to uniting in worship of our All-Sufficient, Perfect, and Faithful God.

Join us for a special dinner as we celebrate God's Faithfulness to His church in Cosperville. 150 years of worship (1875 - 2025).
