Embassy Fellowship - Waverly, Iowa

Embassy Fellowship - Waverly, Iowa We are a group of folks who seek to follow Jesus and we just like being together and meeting new friends!

We love being outdoors and gather by the Cedar River for about half of the year. We try to stay curious and not take ourselves too seriously.

Good Friday Gathering this evening at 7pm.

A short, contemplative gathering where Luke's gospel account of the suffering and death of Jesus will be read aloud. Then we'll share silence and communion together.

We celebrate an "open" communion table at Embassy Fellowship. To us, this means that any person who desires to receive nourishment from Jesus is welcome to partake of the bread and wine.

April 2026 Gatherings at Embassy Fellowship:

The Good Friday gathering will be a contemplative time - reading aloud one of the gospel accounts of the death of Jesus, shared silence, and communion together.

Easter Sunday we'll have a breakfast potluck - bring a quiche, cinnamon rolls, or something breakfast-y to share at 9:15!

"The Bee, the Butterfly, and the Breeze" is now completed! An homage to an untitled poem of Emily Dickinson.

Enjoy this poem with the start of Spring and a creation-based, non-anthropomorphic languaging of the Trinity.

"The gentian weaves her fringes,
The maple’s loom is red.
My departing blossoms
Obviate parade.

A brief, but patient illness,
An hour to prepare;
And one, below this morning,
Is where the angels are.

It was a short procession, —
The bobolink was there,
An aged bee addressed us,
And then we knelt in prayer.

We trust that she was willing, —
We ask that we may be.
Summer, sister, seraph,
Let us go with thee!

In the name of the bee,
And of the butterfly,
And of the breeze, amen!"

-Emily Dickinson

🐝 This is a song we've been singing sometimes at Sunday Gatherings. We do a little bit more of a chill version but maybe we should rock it out sometime with the "Amen - Amen" part. 😅

Why is a dandelion the chosen symbol of our community of faith?

I'm so glad you asked :)

Dandelions are one of a handful of plants that grow literally all over the world. They are know for their healing and detoxifying properties. They are incredibly resilient due to their deep root system and grow up in some of the most unexpected places. Try as we may to get rid of them or label them as a nuisance, they are prolific.

We see resiliency, healing, and divine humor in the existence of dandelions!

To us, these are some beautiful traits of the people of God.

These words speak to my experience of secure attachment to God. The words are from the Divine toward me (and you!). A sense of being held and supported through everything by Divine Presence, yet postured to face outward - able to face and feel whatever life would bring.

For the last couple Lent seasons at Embassy, we've done something called "Lectio Lent" at Sunday Gatherings. Lectio Divina (Latin for "Divine Reading") is an ancient Christian practice that engages the Scripture in a contemplative way. There can be slight variations to how different folks have utilized this practice...here is the template we use!

Lectio can be an individual or communal practice. If you want to see what it's like in a group, join us on Sunday mornings in March!
