Happy National Donut Day! 🍩

A big thank you to National Bakery & Deli for donating several dozen donuts that we were able to share with some of our generous donors today.

National Donut Day was established in 1938 to honor the Salvation Army “Donut Lassies,” who served donuts to American soldiers during World War I. Today, it remains a sweet reminder of service, sacrifice, and community.

What began in the trenches of World War I has become one of America’s most beloved food holidays. Established in 1938, National Donut Day honors the Salvation Army volunteers known as the “Donut Lassies,” who served fresh donuts and provided comfort to soldiers on the front lines in France during World War I.

More than a century later, The Salvation Army continues to serve those in need, helping individuals and families facing poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, and addiction across the United States.

The donuts were delivered to first responders today as a thank-you for their service and dedication to the community.

National Donut Day is about more than a sweet treat.

It's a day rooted in joy, service, tradition, and community, values that have been part of The Salvation Army's National Donut Day celebration since it was established in 1938.

As we prepare to celebrate this Friday, we're reflecting on the legacy of the Donut Lassies and the many ways a simple act of kindness can brighten someone's day.

We’re grateful to be part of partnerships that create real impact for families recovering from flooding across Southeast Wisconsin. Thank you to everyone helping our neighbors rebuild.

A huge step forward for flood recovery in Southeast Wisconsin - through our partnership with Revitalize Milwaukee, we have secured 70 donated water heaters for homeowners impacted by the August 2025 flooding, while also expanding support for individuals and families affected by the mid-April 2026 flooding.

Access to hot water is essential to getting families back on their feet, and these donations will make an immediate impact on households continuing to recover and rebuild.

We’re incredibly grateful for the partnership, generosity, and community support making this possible.
