Today, Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day. Originally called “Decoration Day,” it is a day of remembrance for those who died in service to our nation. It was first meant for those who died in the Civil War but after the First World War it became a day to honor all American servicemen who died in battle. On this Memorial Day, we come before the Creator of mankind to remember those who bravely served our great country and, as a result of their service, were called home by our Lord.
Father, we ask for Your blessing upon the souls of those good men and women who gave their last breath in defense of our nation, our freedom, and our children's future. We also ask You to bless everyone gathered here today, and grant us the strength to rise to the challenges of our time and meet them in full faith that You will always be with us.
Psalm 27:3-4 says, "Though an army besieges me, my heart will not fear; though war breaks out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple."

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House Holy See of Cilicia, arrived in the Vatican on a four-day official visit. His Holiness will hold both private and public meetings with Pope Leo XIV, as well as with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican; Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity; Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches; Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, Prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue; and other high-ranking officials.
Within the framework of his visit, His Holiness Aram I will also deliver a lecture at the Pontifical Oriental Institute of the Vatican.
The members of the Catholicos’ delegation are Archbishop Gomidas Ohanian, Archbishop Kegham Khatcherian, Archbishop Nareg Alemezian, Archbishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Archbishop Papken Tcharian, Archbishop Shahe Panossian, Archbishop Magar Ashkarian, Archbishop Mesrob Sarkissian, Bishop Sahag Yemishian, Bishop Dajad Ashekian, V. Rev. Fr. Hovagim Panjarjian, and V. Rev. Fr. Sarkis Aprahamian.

On this Mother’s Day, we give thanks to God for the love, sacrifice, strength, and faith of mothers everywhere. A mother’s love reflects the nurturing and compassionate love of God; a love that comforts, guides, forgives, and gives life. Today, we honor not only mothers who are with us, but also the cherished memory of mothers and grandmothers who now rest in eternal peace. May God bless all mothers with health, joy, and renewed strength, and may the example of the Holy Mother of God continue to inspire all families with faith, humility, and unconditional love.
