What if the story isn't over yet?

Tomorrow at St. Mark's, we're beginning a new summer series called Following Jesus.

We'll explore a story about a man nobody expected Jesus to choose, a woman who thought she'd been forgotten, and a family who believed hope had run out.

And yet, in every situation, Jesus keeps moving toward people.

Toward those carrying burdens.
Toward those looking for a fresh start.
Toward those wondering what comes next.

Maybe that's a message a lot of us could use right now.

Join us Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Come as you are.
Bring a friend.
Bring your questions.

There's room for you here.

This Sunday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan, we’ll be celebrating Pentecost — the moment the Holy Spirit burst into the world and the church was born.

We’ll explore the connection between Pentecost and the Jewish festival of Shavuot, the giving of the 10 Commandments, and what it means that God is no longer distant… but present within us and among us.

It’s a message about hope.
About purpose.
About discovering that ordinary people can carry the love of God into the world in extraordinary ways.

And honestly? If you’ve been needing a place to breathe, reconnect, ask questions, or simply feel welcomed — we’d love to have you with us.

Dear St. Mark’s Family,

It is with deep sadness, and also gratitude for a long and faithful life, that we share the news that former St. Mark’s pastor, Pastor Richard K. Kaeske, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 88.

Pastor Kaeske served St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wadsworth/Waukegan from 1991 until 1996, when disability forced him to step away from the ministry he dearly loved. His life journey was remarkable — born in Potsdam-Babelsberg, Germany in 1938, immigrating to the United States at age 19, and eventually serving congregations throughout the Chicago area with wisdom, compassion, and deep faith.

He earned degrees from The University of Chicago Divinity School, including a Ph.D., and faithfully served as both pastor and teacher throughout his ministry. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Brigitte, his children Alfred, Barbara, Alexandra, and Laura, and his grandchildren Rachel and Jason.

A visitation will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, 1380 N. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Northbrook in a private family service later that afternoon.

Please keep Brigitte and the entire Kaeske family in your prayers as they grieve and give thanks for Richard’s life.

“Rest eternal, grant him, O Lord;
and let light perpetual shine upon him.”

Grace and peace,
Pastor Colin Cranmer

In a world that feels increasingly divided, it can be hard to find places where people genuinely feel welcomed, seen, and accepted.

This Sunday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan, we’ll be exploring a powerful story from Acts 10:34–43 where Peter realizes that God’s love is bigger than the categories and divisions people create.

It’s a message about walls coming down.
About grace expanding outward.
About discovering that the Kingdom of God was never meant to stay small.

We’ll talk honestly about our tendency as human beings to separate ourselves into groups—and the way Jesus continually widens the circle instead.

At St. Mark’s, we believe church should be a place for all kinds of people:
people with questions,
people rebuilding,
people carrying doubts,
people looking for hope,
and people simply searching for connection and belonging.

No matter your background, story, or where you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here.

Hi everyone,

This Sunday we’ll be exploring one of the most important turning points in the Book of Acts—Acts 10:34–43—where Peter begins to realize that God’s love is bigger than the categories and divisions people create.

It’s a story about walls coming down.
About grace expanding outward.
About discovering that the Gospel was never meant for just one group of people.

In a world that often feels increasingly divided, we’ll talk honestly about our human tendency to separate ourselves into categories—and the way Jesus continually pushes the circle wider.

The heart of the message is simple but powerful:
There is room in God’s Kingdom for all kinds of people.

I hope you’ll come worship with us this Sunday as we reflect on what it means for the church to be a place of welcome, compassion, belonging, and hope.

Whether you’ve been here for years or are simply searching for a place to reconnect with faith, you are invited.

10am In Person and Online

Grace and peace,

Pastor Colin
