Our family has supported Letourneau University in Longview, TX for generations. It is a Christian university founded upon the principle of work being a calling. Students are equipped to see their careers as part of God’s redemptive story, applying their skills to serve others and glorify God This isn't an education in an ivory tower removed from the struggles of life. It is an education to help each of us discover what God has planted in us, develop that calling to professional excellence, and send its graduates into the world to be humble and serve.

Many times we believe we cannot serve God where we are. Ah, but God has prepared us to be humble and serve others in whatever vocation we find ourselves. We are a servant of God where we are planted today. We are not called to focus on where else we want to be. but rather, pause, be prayerful and thoughtful, and discern how we can bring the love of Jesus Christ to where we are today.

Mike Rowe has taught us that dirty jobs can also be fulfilling, serving, humble, and building professions. He reminds us that God calls us where we are. He equips us where we are. He will shine through us wherever we are.

We all know people in everyday jobs that are exemplary in how they care, honor and serve. They are memorable. They are delightful. They are a gift to each of us each day. Yes, they have heard God's call and they are fulfilling it right where they are. What about you? Do you dream of other places and other jobs. Or are you working to share the love of Jesus where you are.

Isaiah 55:2
Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.

God has designed us to walk with Him. Seeking the things of this world leaves us empty, "is this all there is?" God calls us to eat what is good, the spiritual food of the Bible, prayer and worship. You can walk the path of "things" for many years. All the while seeking spiritual food. But "Things" do not bring satisfaction, gratitude and peace.

We seek. We search. We wander. After a long, long search we come back to the truth. God made us. If we want satisfaction, gratitude and peace, then seek first the Kingdom of God. Jesus is where you will find what you are looking for.
