Morning visit to our Watkinsville Cemetery.

Everything sure has greened up with our recent showers.

Saw workers preparing for the installation of an archway at the center entrance to Cemetery. That will be a nice addition to the new sidewalks and lamp posts.

Photo of the view of the new bridge coming from downtown towards Thomas Preserve. Please take note of the eternal view I will have of the bridge crossing. Perhaps long in the future, folks can wave at me as they walk by.

Don’t forget to consider a donation for the cemetery upkeep. Checks can be sent to the City Hall, Post Office Box 27, Watkinsville, Ga 30677

A lot going on at the Watkinsville Cemetery….

Thanks to the City for their grass cutting. They did a complete cut including long neglected plots. It looks great.

Also, the sidewalk expansion to Thomas Park is going gangbusters in front of the Cemetery. It will meander through the woods across a planned footbridge and connect to Third Street along Mulberry Lane.

It was great to see a large turnout of folks utilizing Thomas Park. A group of young people were there doing calisthenics and running laps. An unusual sight but an exciting one.

Thanks to all who care…

Checking out the Cemetery this morning getting ready for Easter. A wonderful crop of wild onions this spring. Grass growing season not too far away.

Noticed the work has begun on the sidewalk along the Whitehall Road starting at Thomas Preserve headed towards the Cemetery. So, if you are out there this week, be aware. This sidewalk will eventually connect with Mulberry Street (thru the woods) giving access to pedestrians, etc from downtown to the new park.

Wanted to highlight James Denny Ray. Born in 1912 and died in 1966. His wife was Mary, who lived until 1993. His two children were Olin and Jackie. I remember him running the Sinclair Service Station at the junction of Hwy 441 and 15. Maybe someone can recall if he was the original owner/operator.

Happy Easter to all ! 🐣

Recent storms took down a HUGE pine tree. From my survey, it appears that there were no “upright” headstones affected; however there are a few flat grave markers moved around. Pictures attempt to capture the damage and location. Have not talked with City since I just discovered it this morning. I believe they are aware since it blocked the entrance to the city parking lot.

Please be aware that the traffic pattern within the Cemetery has changed. The lower and upper driveways are to be used as one way entrances. The middle drive is now a one way exit. Please be careful not to park in the travel lanes if visiting your family plot since it would impede the traffic to the City Park. Would suggest that you park in the graveled parking lot at the rear. Thanks
