РІЗДВЯНЕ ПАСТИРСЬКЕ ПОСЛАННЯ ЄРАРХІВ УКРАЇНСЬКОЇ КАТОЛИЦЬКОЇ ЦЕРКВИ СПОЛУЧЕНИХ ШТАТІВ АМЕРИКИ 2025 РОКУ БОЖОГО

Христос Рождається!

Доброчесні отці, диякони, преподобні ченці та черниці, брати-семінаристи та дорогі вірні!

У Різдві Господь всесвіту, сповитий пеленами, покладається у ясла в темній печері, щоб наповнити серця тих, хто вірує, нескінченним світлом. Він не потребував нічого, але добровільно прийняв убогість, щоб ми навчилися зневажати те, що світ називає великим, і прагнути того, що небеса вважають справді цінним.

Чи можемо ми збагнути велич Таїнства Божого воплочення? Той, хто є незбагненний для всього створіння, сьогодні стає видимим як Немовля. Той, хто є безконечний, починає життя в часі. Той, хто тримає всесвіт у Своїх руках, лежить у яслах.

Сьогодні розвіюється тінь старого гріха, бо засіяло світло Нового Адама. Земля, що колись була проклята за гріх, тепер приймає благословення через воплочення Господа. Він прийшов не для того, щоб судити, але щоб спасти. Не для того, щоб карати, але щоб зцілити. Не для того, щоб відкинути, але щоб повернути улюблених дітей у дім Отця.

Пастухи, які посеред темної ночі почули голос ангелів, пішли за світлом зорі — і це світло не залишилося зовнішнім: воно увійшло в їхні серця. «Той, хто справді знайшов Христа, не може повернутися тим самим, ким був. Вони вийшли як пастирі стада, але повернулися пророками», — Григорій Великий, Гомілія на Різдво.

Поспіх пастухів — це знак ревного пошуку правди. Те, що пастухи побачили й почули, так вразило їх, що, забувши про свої стада, вони вночі вирушили до Вифлеєма, щоб зрозуміти значення цього світла та сповістити іншим про Спасителя. Хто шукає Христа — той не зволікає. Побачивши Немовля в яслах і пам’ятаючи слова ангелів, вони зуміли поєднати Образ і Слово та зрозуміли, що перед ними — Еммануїл, що означає: «З нами Бог» (Іс. 7:14).
Вірні нашої Церкви в Україні і на поселеннях Свято Христового Різдва вже четвертий рік поспіль звершують у страшній війні. На 25 грудня 2025 року припадатиме 1401-й день героїчної боротьби українського народу від моменту повномасштабного вторгнення росії. Сотні тисяч забраних життів: воїнів, волонтерів, жінок і дітей, людей похилого віку; зруйновані міста й села; окуповані території та кров невинно вбитих російським окупантом, яка волає до неба. Понад усе ми прагнемо знайти справжній мир, який зупинить людиноненависницький шал червоного звіра, Ірода наших днів, що продовжує живитися кров’ю багатостраждальної України.

«В лютих часах війни маємо усі стільки причин смутку й плачу, що прийшлося б у терпіннях і без надії сходити з цього світу, якщо б не було Спасителя Христа… А коли є надія, то можна, то треба радуватися і наперекір усяким злидням»

Перед нами, як Церквою, стоїть багато викликів. Війна в Україні завдала численних ран, тому потребуємо Лікаря — Спасителя, який входить у людську історію, щоб сьогодні бути з нашими захисниками на передовій, з пораненими — у лікарнях, з удовами й сиротами — у їхньому горі, а з невинно вбитими — у Царстві Небесному.

Цілющого свідчення потребує і Америка, яка також страждає від поділів, поляризації, фрагментації, нерівності та інших випробувань.

Цілительної любові Божої, яка може загоїти тріщини у наших душах, родинах, спільнотах, прагне кожен із нас.

Господь гряде!

Відкриймо широко не лише двері наших сердець, але й наші домівки: приймімо сьогодні голодних і спраглих, тимчасово переміщених і тих, хто втратив усе; зігріймо нагих нашою увагою, а хворим послужімо з любов’ю і терпеливістю. Молімося за тих, хто сьогодні перебуває в полоні, і робімо все, щоб їхній голос був почутий на волі.

Ми також із вами поспішаємо за світлом зорі, щоб знайти Христа — Сонце Правди. Прийдімо з чистими серцями до Вифлеємської печери. Принесімо не золото й смирну, а віру, любов і покору. Бо ті, хто наближаються до Христа, отримують мир, радість і нове життя.

Нехай Народжений сьогодні освітить наші душі, очистить наші серця і зміцнить нас на шлях до спасіння.

Йому — честь, слава і поклоніння навіки.

CHRISTMAS PASTORAL OF THE UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC HIERARCHY OF THE USA 2025

Christ is Born!

Reverend Fathers, Deacons, Venerable Monks and Sisters, Brother Seminarians, and Beloved
Faithful:

In the mystery of the Nativity, the Lord of the universe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, is laid in a manger in a dark cave so that He may fill the hearts of all who believe with unending light. He, who needed nothing, freely embraced poverty so that we might learn to despise what the world calls great and seek what heaven considers truly precious.

Can we fathom the greatness of the Mystery of God’s Incarnation? He who is incomprehensible to all creation today becomes visible as an Infant. He who is infinite begins life within time. He who holds the universe in His hands lies in a manger.

Today the shadow of ancient sin is scattered, for the light of the New Adam has shone forth. The earth, once cursed because of sin, now receives blessings through the Lord’s Incarnation. He came not to judge but to save. Not to punish but to heal. Not to reject but to bring God’s beloved children back into the Father’s house.

The shepherds, who heard the voice of angels in the darkness of night, followed the light of the star—and that light did not remain merely external; it entered their hearts. As Gregory the Great writes: “He who truly finds Christ cannot return as the same person. They went out as shepherds of the flock, but returned as prophets.”

The haste of the shepherds is a sign of a fervent search for truth. What they saw and heard so deeply moved them that, forgetting their flocks, they set out by night for Bethlehem to understand the meaning of that light and to proclaim the Savior to others. Whoever seeks Christ does not delay. Seeing the Infant in the manger and recalling the words of the angels, they united Image and Word and recognized before them Emmanuel, which means “God-with-us” (Isaiah 7:14).
The faithful of our Church in Ukraine and throughout the world celebrate the Holy Nativity of Christ for the fourth consecutive year amid a terrible war. On December 25, 2025, we mark the 1401st day of the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people following the full-scale Russian invasion. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost—soldiers, volunteers, women and children, the elderly; cities and villages have been destroyed; territories occupied; and the blood of the innocent slain by the Russian aggressor cries out to heaven. Above all, we long for true peace—peace that will halt the murderous fury of the red beast, the Herod of our days, who continues to feed on the blood of long-suffering Ukraine.

“In these fierce times of War we have so many reasons for sorrow and lamentation that we would leave this world in suffering and without hope—if there were no Savior Christ… But when there is hope, then one can—indeed, must—rejoice in spite of every affliction.”

As a Church, we face many challenges. The war in Ukraine has inflicted countless wounds. Therefore, we need the Physician—the Savior—who enters human history to be today with our defenders on the front lines, with the wounded in hospitals, with widows and orphans in their grief, and with the innocent slain in the Heavenly Kingdom.

America, too, needs healing, as it suffers from division, polarization, fragmentation, inequality, and many other trials.

Each of us longs for the healing love of God, which alone can mend the fractures in our souls, families, and communities.

The Lord is coming!

Let us open wide not only the doors of our hearts but also of our homes: let us welcome the hungry and thirsty, the displaced and those who have lost everything; let us warm the naked with our embrace, and serve the sick with love and patience. Let us pray for those who are in captivity and do all we can to make their voices heard in freedom.

We, too, hasten after the light of the star to find Christ—the Sun of Righteousness. Let us come with pure hearts to the Bethlehem Cave. Let us bring not gold and myrrh but faith, love, and humility. For those who draw near to Christ receive peace, joy, and new life.

May Christ who was born today illumine our souls, purify our hearts, and strengthen us on the path to salvation.

To Him be honor, glory, and worship forever.

Today, оn , we remember a figure who became a symbol of fidelity to Christ and to His Church — Blessed Bishop and Martyr Josaphat Kotsylovsky.

Born in 1876 in the Lemko village of Pakoszivka, Josaphat grew up in a deeply religious family, where love for the Church was a natural part of life. Even in his youth he sought his vocation: he studied in Lviv and Prague, was active in public life, and served in the Austrian army. Yet the Lord was calling him to something greater — the path of the priesthood.

While studying in Rome, the future bishop earned doctorates in philosophy and theology, mastered several languages, and prepared himself in the best possible way for his ministry. After ordination, he became a professor and later a Basilian monk, known for his discipline, humility, and fervor in prayer.

In 1917, Josaphat Kotsylovsky was appointed Bishop of Przemyśl. His pastoral ministry unfolded in extremely difficult times — the First World War, the Western Ukrainian National Republic, interwar Poland, persecutions by the Soviets and the N***s, and the Second World War. Despite everything, he was a true father to his flock.

He reformed the seminary, supported monastic communities, cared for orphans, opened missions, conducted retreats, tirelessly visited parishes, and nurtured the spiritual growth of priests and laypeople. He emphasized especially the importance of prayer, the Eucharist, and personal holiness.

When the time of trial came, Bishop Josaphat showed unshakeable courage. Having endured NKVD interrogations, threats, and mockery, he did not renounce communion with the Catholic Church. In his letter to Pope Pius XIII, he wrote words whose strength still moves us today: “I lay at the feet of his holiness the expression of my fidelity and complete devotion until the last beat of my heart…”

For this fidelity he paid with his life. Bishop Josaphat died in the Chapaiev camp hospital near Kyiv from pneumonia caused by the horrific conditions and exhaustion in the Soviet labor camps.

Today, as we remember Blessed Bishop Josaphat, let us ask God to grant us the same courage, wisdom, and zeal in serving the Church.

Сьогодні у згадуємо постать, яка стала символом вірності Христові та Церкві — блаженного єпископа і мученика Йосафата Коциловського.

Народжений 1876 року в лемківській Пакошівці, Йосафат виріс у глибоко релігійній родині, де любов до Церкви була природною складовою життя. Ще в молодості він шукав своє покликання: навчався у Львові та Празі, був активним у громадському житті, служив в австрійській армії. Однак Господь кликав його до більшого — до духовної дороги.

Навчаючись у Римі, майбутній владика здобув докторат з філософії та теології, опанував кілька мов і якнайкраще підготувався до свого служіння. Після свячень він став викладачем, згодом монахом-василіянином, відомим своєю дисципліною, смиренням і ревністю в молитві.

У 1917 році Йосафата Коциловського було поставлено єпископом Перемиським. Його пастирське служіння припало на непрості роки: Перша світова війна, ЗУНР, міжвоєнна

Польща, переслідування від більшовиків і нацистів, Друга світова війна. Попри все, владика був справжнім батьком для своєї пастви.

Він реформував семінарію, підтримував чернечі спільноти, опікувався сиротинцями, відкривав місії, проводив реколекції, невтомно відвідував парафії та дбав про духовне зростання священників і мирян. Особливо наголошував на молитві, Євхаристії та особистій святості.

Коли прийшов час випробувань, владика Йосафат виявив незламну відвагу. Переживши допити НКВД, погрози і насмішки, він не зрікся єдності з Католицькою Церквою. У своєму листі до Папи Пія XIII написав слова, що й сьогодні вражають силою: «Складаю у стіп його святості вияв моєї вірності і цілковитої відданості до останнього удару мого серця…»

За цю вірність він заплатив мученицьким життям. Помер владика у таборовому шпиталі Чапаєв, біля Києва, від запалення легенів, спричиненого жахливими умовами утримання та виснаженням у радянських таборах.

Сьогодні, згадуючи блаженного владику Йосафата, просімо у Бога такої ж мужності, мудрості й ревності у служінні Церкві.
