Which of you, if you had a son or daughter, which of you, if your kid asked for bread, would give him a stone? If you're doing that, you're just mean. God's not mean. Or if they ask for a fish, we'll give them a snake. That's just mean. That's not God. If we're not going to do that, even though we're evil, why do we think God's going to do that? God's not going to do that. The reason we know what's right and good is because of God, not because of us, not because we've evolved to this level. Oh my goodness.

When we critically judge, we take the place of God. It's the Holy Spirit's job. We get to be part of helping, encourage and supporting each other and building each other up and help people walk before God. But how are we doing it? We take the place of God. I think that's been. The church has been guilty of doing this for centuries. We try to tell people this is what it means to be a Christian. This is how you do it. This is what you do, and this is what the church has done. And I think in doing that, too often we've lost the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with people and see them want to come and know Jesus. We have to be careful of judging people's hearts and Motives. We only live in our own mind. We only live in our own hearts. We don't know why others do what they do.

One of the most frustrating things I have about Christians is that we forget that people are lost. Maybe we've walked with Jesus for so long that we just like, why do they act that way? They're lost. They don't know that. They don't know. We forget that people don't know who Jesus is. We forget that people don't know what the Bible teaches. They don't know truth. They don't know what right and good living is. We think and assume people should know better. Guess what? They don't. They don't know better. Why does he do that? He doesn't know. We need to be mindful of situations and people we find ourselves in or with. And we need to be discerning about how we quote Scripture or how we discuss or maybe argue, debate. I don't know truth. Because it may be throwing pearls to the pigs. It may be giving something good to dogs that don't know what to do with it. They're just going to tear it up, okay?

A lot of times we get judgy because someone's done something that we don't like, right? And the reality is what we really need to do is just forgive them. Romans 2. One says, you therefore have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else. For at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself because you who pass judgment do the same things. Which is a lot of times why we judge to begin with, because we see something in someone else that we also see in ourselves and we don't like about ourselves. And so now we're going to go ahead and complain about it with them. We'll talk more about that one later. Later in Romans 14, 4 says, who are you to judge someone else's servant to their own master? Servants stand or fall, and they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand. We don't have any right if we are all, as followers of Jesus, we are all the Father's servants. We serve him, we love him, we're his kids. We do the work for him, for his kingdom. One of the commentaries I read said, the primary reason many of us are ineffective at ministering to others is that we often try to play God. We judge people's hearts and motivations. That's God's job, right? That's not ours. We judge with our own evil intentions and we often lack all the information.

Some people, this is why they worry, because they can't accept the fact that they are valuable to God. See, the reality is we are his kids. We are his kids. Some of you aren't parents yet. For those of you that are parents, what will you do for your kids? Right? What have you done for your kids? Right? What will we do for our kids? Romans 8:15 says, the Spirit you receive does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear. Rather, the spirit you receive brought about adoption to sonship, and by him we cry, abba, Father. Same thing, Galatians 4, 6 and 7. Because you are his sons. God sent the spirit of his son into our hearts. And the spirit who calls out above, abba, father, you are no longer a slave, but God's child. And since you were his child, God has made you also an heir. Because he values us, he loves us, he cares for us.

And that's what God does. And he takes care of all of that. And yet we get so worried about. Hebrews 1:3 says, the sun is the radiance of God's glory. That's Jesus. Jesus is the radiance of God's glory. And he's the exact representation of his being. He sustains all things by his powerful word. Do you know what's included in all things? You and me. So when we spend time in this and when we spend time with Jesus, he sustains us. And yet we get so worried about some of the easiest, smallest things.

But is it obedience or is it disobedience? Is it a heart after the Father, or is it the things that will please my heart? And so you're saying, well, that's Old Testament. Okay, we'll go to New Testament. Matthew, chapter 19. Just then a man came up to Jesus and said, teacher, what good things must I do to enter eternal life? Why do you ask me about what is good? There's only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments. Which ones? You shall not murder, shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. Honor your father and mother, love your neighbor as yourself. The young man says, I've done all of these. I've kept all of these. What still do I lack? Jesus answered, if you want to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. When the young man heard this, he went away, sad because of his great wealth. Where was his heart? His heart was in his belongings, in what he had. And Jesus says, you can't do that. You can't. So what do you value the most? If you were stuck on a deserted island, what would you have to have? Where is your treasure?
