🎵 Hymn of the Week 🎵
This Week’s Hymn: There Is Power in the Blood
đź“– Scripture (KJV)
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
— Leviticus 17:11
🕊️ The Story Behind the Hymn
“There Is Power in the Blood” was written by Lewis E. Jones in 1899. Jones was an American gospel songwriter who wrote many hymns and gospel songs.
The hymn points believers to the saving and cleansing power found in the blood of Jesus Christ. Its repeated question, “Would you be free from your burden of sin?”, reminds us that true freedom, cleansing, and victory are found through Christ and His sacrifice.
✝️ What It Teaches
This hymn teaches us that the blood of Jesus is powerful because it provides atonement for sin, cleansing for the believer, and victory over the power of sin. We cannot free ourselves from sin through our own efforts. Salvation comes through the sacrifice Christ made for us.
The blood represents the price Christ paid on the cross so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God. Because of His sacrifice, we can walk in freedom, holiness, and newness of life.
As we consider today’s lesson, “[Lesson Title],” may we remember that our hope is not in our own strength, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ. When we face sin, temptation, guilt, or discouragement, we can look to Christ and remember the power of His sacrifice.
“There is power, power, wonder-working power in the blood of the Lamb.”
