“Though Your Sins Be as Scarlet” was written by F***y J. Crosby in the late 19th century, with music by William H. Doane. Crosby, one of the most prolific hymn writers in Christian history, was known for expressing powerful biblical truths through simple, memorable words.

The hymn is based directly on Isaiah 1:18 and emphasizes God’s gracious invitation to sinners to come to Him, turn from their ways, and receive cleansing and forgiveness. Its message reminds us that no matter how stained our past may be, God’s mercy is greater than our sin.

“There Is Power in the Blood” was written by Lewis E. Jones in 1899. Jones was an American gospel songwriter who wrote many hymns and gospel songs.
The hymn points believers to the saving and cleansing power found in the blood of Jesus Christ. Its repeated question, “Would you be free from your burden of sin?”, reminds us that true freedom, cleansing, and victory are found through Christ and His sacrifice.

✝️ What It Teaches
This hymn teaches us that the blood of Jesus is powerful because it provides atonement for sin, cleansing for the believer, and victory over the power of sin. We cannot free ourselves from sin through our own efforts. Salvation comes through the sacrifice Christ made for us.

I Have Decided to Follow Jesus has long been sung as a simple declaration of commitment to Christ. Its repeated message—choosing to follow Jesus and refusing to turn back—reminds us that the Christian life requires continued faith and perseverance.

✝️ What It Teaches

Psalm 51 shows us David at one of the lowest points of his life. After recognizing his sin, he did not give up on serving God. Instead, he humbled himself, sought God’s forgiveness, and asked Him for a clean heart and a renewed spirit.

Following Christ does not mean we will never stumble. When we do, God’s Word teaches us to repent, turn back to Him, and continue faithfully.
