Thus far in Haggai the prophet has confronted the people with regards to problems with their priorities and perseverance. Now Haggai will confront them with regards to a problem with their personal lives. The people had begun the good work of rebuilding the temple but there was still a problem. Because of personal sin these people were defiling the good work that they had been called to do. He does this by pointing out that holiness is not transmitted to them, but defilement is transferred to their work. This message to these people is just as important to us today.

In Haggai 1 the prophet confronts the people over a problem with their priorities. In Haggai 2:1-9 he confronts them with a problem with their perseverance. They've started the good work of rebuilding the temple but almost immediately they are in danger of stalling out. Many of the older people remember the fading glory of Solomon's temple. Now they can't possibly see how the pile of rubble before them can ever be as great as that. They've fallen victim to the folly of old men everywhere, they remember the "good old days." This folly is especially dangerous to us in the modern American church. However, the encouragement the prophet offers the people of Judah can be of great help to us in the church today.

The prophet Haggai is the first of the minor prophets to be speaking to the people of Judah post exile. His message comes about sixteen years after the people had first returned to the land of Judah. However, there was a problem. After all this time they still hadn't started on rebuilding the temple even though they had been given a lot of resources to do so. Therefore, the prophet encourages the people to consider how things are going and whether or not they need to make some serious changes. The questions the prophet poses are good for us to consider today even if we don't have a major building project on our hands.

There are many wonderful godly women to read of in Scripture. Today we'll be looking at Hannah the godly, faithful mother of Samuel. In the brief account of Hannah we essentially see her speed run the motherhood experience. In the process she goes through many of the emotional challenges and blessings that normally takes mothers a lifetime to feel. So join us as we see God's love for this woman and then hopefully feel God's love ourselves.

Join us for the wonderful conclusion to our study in Zephaniah. Thus far in Zephaniah we've been focused on the judgment that will befall the wicked during the first part of the Day of the Lord, that being the night. Now at the end of Zephaniah the prophet turns his attention to the wonderful blessings that will come to those who are preserved through the night to see the wonderful light of day.

Today we continue our study of the book of Zephaniah with chapter 3, verses one through eight. Here the prophet turns his attention on Jerusalem to warn them of the impending wrath of God on the day of the Lord. In the process he gives them examples to show that they should take this seriously. Now as we look back on these things we can consider Jerusalem themself as an example to us and we would do well to heed the prophet's warning before the Day of the Lord comes again.

Join us as we continue considering the prophetic message of Zephaniah. In chapter one we saw that God was coming to clean house. He was going to sweep the earth clean of all idolators and their idols. This was bad news for the people of Judah. However, in chapter two we see that it was even worse news for those who were enemies to God's people. In this chapter we read of how God's wrath was going to come on all of His enemies that surrounded His people. Now even though these nations have long since ceased to exist (see aforementioned wrath) we can still lean from the prophet's message. Since these things happened on the Day of the Lord long ago, these things will happen again when the final day of the Lord comes. Will we be ready for that day?

Join us as we resume our journey through the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. Today we begin to look at the prophet Zephaniah. Zephaniah prophesied during the latter part of the kingdom of Judah during the early part of king Josiah's reign. He prophesied of the coming day of the Lord and told how on that day the Lord was going to sweep the earth clean. By looking at this historical day of the Lord we can be well warned for the day of the Lord yet to come at the end of days.
