Calvary Baptist Church of Waterbury, CT

Calvary Baptist Church of Waterbury, CT Calvary is a Bible-believing, Gospel teaching, non-denominational Baptist church located on the north side of Waterbury, CT.

Experience love, hope, and purpose with us! We are here to point men and women to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then to ground them in the faith (Matthew 28:19-20). With this mission in mind, we are working hard to present a balanced ministry through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, with the aim of meeting the daily needs of individuals and families so they might live victorious Christian lives. Furthermore, we are endeavoring to lead the congregation in the sincere worship of our Savior; to teach them to edify one another, and to evangelistically reach out to the lost in the community and abroad, claiming Ephesians 4:11-16 as the general guideline for the function of the local church.

What if the most ordinary moments of your life are actually preparing you for something extraordinary?

This week we explored the story of David and Goliath—not just as a tale of courage, but as a portrait of what faithfulness in the mundane produces over time. Before David ever faced Goliath, he was tending sheep, running errands, and playing music in obscurity. He was faithful with the small things, and God entrusted him with something greater.

Luke 16:10 reminds us that he who is faithful in little is faithful in much. The breakthrough you have been waiting for may not be far off—it may be waiting on the other side of quiet, consistent obedience.

Do not despise the ordinary. God is at work in it.

God does not see what we see. While we judge by appearance, talent, and reputation, God looks at the heart. That is the powerful truth at the center of this week's message from 1 Samuel 16, the anointing of David, the forgotten shepherd boy who became Israel's greatest king.

David was overlooked by his own family, left out in the fields while his brothers stood before Samuel. Yet God chose him. Not because of his resume, but because of his heart. The same God who chose the unlikely David is calling ordinary people today to extraordinary kingdom purpose.

Whether you feel too small, too broken, or too unqualified, God's question to you is the same one David's story answers: why not you? Stop letting self doubt or self reliance keep you from the mission God has placed before you. He doesn’t need your credentials. He needs your heart.

Join us next Sunday as we continue our series, Imperfect Faith: Discovering Grace in the Story of David.

Tomorrow, we begin a brand new series on the story of David. His life was full of deeply applicable themes, including facing your greatest fears, navigating close friendships, grieving and waiting, dealing with dangerous isolation, and experiencing restoration. Ultimately, these events all led David to experience grace in God’s redemptive narrative.

Come and learn how David’s story is not much different from our own, and how God can use you to participate in something bigger than yourself.

See you tomorrow at 10:30AM!

When was the last time you truly sat in silence and listened for God? In our final message through the book of Jonah, we discovered that some of God's most powerful lessons are spoken not in the noise, but in the quiet.

Jonah's anger at God's grace toward Nineveh reveals something uncomfortable—how often do we celebrate mercy for ourselves while resenting it for others? God used a plant, a worm, and the desert sun to strip away Jonah's distractions and bring him face to face with his own heart.

As Psalm 46:10 reminds us, "Be still, and know that I am God." The art of listening is not lost—it just requires intentionality. Let’s make space for silence. That is where God meets us, teaches us, and transforms us.

Have you ever needed a second chance? In Jonah Chapter 3, we see one of the most powerful truths in all of Scripture: when Jonah repented, God relented. The same compassion God showed Jonah is available to you today.

No matter how far you have run, how deeply you have failed, or how dark your situation feels, God's grace is greater than all of it. His word comes to us again. He never stops pursuing those He loves.

“Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.” (Isaiah 30:18) Every chance from God demands a choice from us. Will you respond?
