will guide us in exploring how poetry can open us to a deeper awareness of the earth as our
shared home. We’ll consider how ordinary moments in nature can become spiritual encounters that awaken wonder, humility, and a sense of belonging.

In his Spiritual Exercises, St. Ignatius of Loyola recommends that we pray with scripture by putting ourselves in the scene and contemplating the gospel passage with our senses: what do we see, hear, smell, etc.? During this guided retreat day, we will engage and pray with our senses, and allow them to minister to our souls.

Mary will offer input, including how our senses work, stories relating to our senses, and sensory experiences. Time will be given to explore the grounds using our senses, along with suggestions for prayer, such as recalling memories, and reflecting on poems, stories, or scripture. Lunch will be eaten contemplatively, with a focus on our sense of taste and smell. There will also be opportunities throughout the day to share how God ministered to our souls through our senses. Lunch will be provided.
