Cleanup Days in Houston this year will be May 16-20 (Monday-Saturday). Bags are available for pickup from 9am to 5pm from Houston City Hall or one of our fire stations if someone is at the station.
Absolutely no hazmats are covered by the program, and that includes refrigerators and freezers with intact compressors, and any paints. No personal trash from private property, and no commercial disposals.
Large metals need to be separated from the rest because the landfill recycles those.
Bags will not be provided to people until the week of the cleanup. This is to decrease the risk of abuse of the program and respect the donors and sponsors. A maximum of 10 bags per person or 25 per family is allowed, but these are very large and sturdy bags and that will be sufficient. If you fill those up, you are welcome to come get more.
If you need ideas on where to clean, we always encourage people to clean the streets they live on. In addition to this, this year's areas of priority focus are King Arthur Dr, Nichols Dr, Wasey Way, Big Lake Rd, Anthony Rd, Kenlar Rd, and Hawk Ln. Only roads, parks, and public lands are eligible for this program.
If you find any hypodermic needles and are uncomfortable picking them up, they can be marked somehow and notify us by texting 907-355-8794 with a photo of their location and Houston FD will retrieve them. This only applies within the City of Houston.
