With the words of Job and his three companions complete, a new voice speaks up. Elihu, a reorienting voice whose role has spurred scholarly debate for millennia, finally contributes to the discussion and debate around our suffering in this world and God’s part in it. As he does so, Elihu prepares the way for Job to hear from God Himself—who will finally declare what lies at the heart of hope that remains. Today's passage: Job 32-37

Although blameless and upright, Job has suffered greatly. As he laments his state and makes a final plea to God, we are given a picture of his righteousness, and we await, with Job, God's answer. Today's passage: Job 29-31

Although blameless and upright, Job has suffered greatly. As he laments his state and makes a final plea to God, we are given a picture of his righteousness, and we await, with Job, God's answer.

As Job’s arguments and laments approach a conclusion, Job reflects on the meaning and pursuit of Wisdom amidst suffering, and in particular the God who is the very embodiment of Wisdom and who is THE hope that remains. Today's passage: Job 28

As Job’s arguments and laments approach a conclusion, Job reflects on the meaning and pursuit of Wisdom amidst suffering, and in particular the God who is the very embodiment of Wisdom and who is THE hope that remains.

The reality of living in a broken world means that even God’s people will suffer. Job provides us with a portrait of what it looks like for God’s people to suffer well in a broken world, even as we lament. We continue to look toward the promise of redemption—the hope that remains. Today's passage: Job 4-27 (reading from 19:23-29)

The reality of living in a broken world means that even God’s people will suffer. Job provides us with a portrait of what it looks like for God’s people to suffer well in a broken world, even as we lament. We continue to look toward the promise of redemption—the hope that remains.

Job’s three friends, who came to be with him in his grief, speak a whole host of “windy words” and prove to be miserable comforters to him in his grief (Job 16:2-3). Today we will consider how NOT to weep with those who weep as we seek to point others to the only hope that remains amidst life’s brokenness. Today’s passage surveys the responses of Job’s companions. (Job 4-27)

In this broken world we have ample opportunity to come alongside and share life with people in deep grief, but how can we do this well? Today we will consider the concept of lament, the role it plays in the lives of God’s people, and how it feeds into a persevering hope for God’s people. Today's passage: Job 2:11-3:26

As we consider what Job teaches about our hope in a broken world, we encounter the foundational reality that we live in a world where spiritual and physical realms overlap and affect one another. Furthermore, this multi-layered world is one where an Adversary seeks to discredit God and destroy all He loves, and yet God is still in control. Today's passage: Job 1:1-2:10

Job is one of the oldest books of the Bible, and it confronts some of the oldest challenges facing mankind. How do we make sense of suffering in this world? Is there hope amidst the pain? Where is God amidst the darkness of this broken world? In response, the book of Job boldly declares that even in the darkness and grief of this broken world, hope remains. Today's passage: Job 1:1-2:10

As we start into the school year we want to, once again, fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Today we will reflect on Hebrews 12:1-2 as we celebrate Communion, reaffirming the centrality of Jesus in our individual and congregational lives.
