Although we read about many events in history throughout school, there are few that we actually experience. 23 years later, and I'll never forget. I was in 11th grade history class, and that's where we stayed. Doors were locked, TVs were turned on, and desks were moved to form a circle around the room to see the TV. There was silence as we watched what we didn't understand at the time what would be a deeply devastating part of our history. May we never forget those brave men and women that gave their lives in an effort to save others, as their final act in this life. May we never forget the unity that came on September 12th all throughout the United States πΊπΈ β€οΈ.
I wrote this is in 2020, but it still rings true today...
Today Lord, let us remember the 3,000 innocent lives lost. Still, the most awe inspiring part of that day 19 years ago was the comradery, the deep desire to help those in need even unto death. Men and women gave their lives to try to save the lives of others. They gave everything they had to give. Let us honor their memory by coming together as a nation just like they did. Lord, we pray for unity in this nation. Let us come together to do Your will.
Lord, let us remember that every single one of those people had a life they didn't get to go back to, plans that were left forever undone. Lord, let us be thankful each day that we get to make plans. Let us take a moment of silence to remember that our plans are never promised.
Lord, let us remember their families that were expecting their loved ones to come home. Let us remember this day is more than wearing red, white, and blue. Lord, let us tell our children about the great sacrifice so many of these men and women made, willingly. Let us teach our children that we stand for the pledge of allegiance because we do not take that sacrifice lightly. We stand for unity, and we stand out of respect to those we can only keep alive in our memories.
Lord, we pray You give peace to the families that are still grieving. We pray You calm their mind and sooth their hearts on this day that we remember.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.
