Ditch Your Cape, Week 1 - Ditch Your Assumptions

In Luke 10:25-29, a lawyer recites Old Testament teachings to Jesus assuming these are the goals of Jewish life. The only problem is…he can’t define “neighbor.” Neighbor might be a fuzzy word for us, too. This week, instead of assuming we know who the “neighbor” is, ditch the old way of reading this parable to be surprised by the neighbor’s true identity.

The 7th Annual KMA Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, September 19th at Meramec Lakes Golf Course in St. Clair.

This tournament stands as a tribute to the memory of Kenny Atchison and all proceeds go to support Kenny’s daughter, Cora, as she grows and navigates life without her father.

There are still a few spots available! Click the link below for more information or to register.

Welcome to the KMA Memorial Golf Tournament Website Each year, we come together not only to enjoy a great day on the course, but more importantly, to honor and celebrate the life of Kenny Atchison — a beloved friend, family member, and father. Kenny’s love for life was matched only by his love

First Washington has the opportunity to help with Harvest Table this Saturday, September 12th and we need volunteers!

Volunteers will need to be at St. Peter's UCC (20 East 5th St, Washington) by 4:15pm to help set-up and serve a free community meal.

Meal is served 5-6pm with clean-up afterwards. Usually, volunteers are done by 6:20pm. This is a very rewarding evening of community service and fellowship with our church family and with our neighbors in need of a free meal and a cool place to eat.

Please contact Deb Warren, 314-484-1199 (text or call) or email at [email protected] if you can help at this local mission or need more information.

Thank you for your consideration to serve!

Get ready for a new sermon series beginning September 13th: Ditch Your Cape: Discovering the Real Hero in the Story of the Good Samaritan.

Does following Jesus feel like another program designed to help you become the best possible version of yourself? What if there was a different way? It’s time to ditch the preconceived notion that Jesus was just a self-help guru for the individual and discover a life of purpose that is bigger and more expansive than we could have imagined before.

This three-week sermon series will challenge the participants to embrace an alternative way of approaching the parable of the Good Samaritan. Ultimately, shifting the focus from what we should do to who God is ditches our superhero capes and changes the church’s approach to the mission.
