Engaging more deeply in intercession sometimes leads us to rush into spiritual warfare without first consulting the Lord to confirm our involvement. David’s initial reaction wasn’t to pursue; it was to fortify himself in the Lord (v.6b). The scripture doesn’t specify how he achieved this, yet we can infer from David’s life that worship likely played a key role. It’s plausible he reflected on his past victories with God, reminiscent of his confrontation with Goliath. Perhaps he even reminisced about his moments with the Lord during his time as a shepherd boy. David had cultivated a history with God, and drawing upon this legacy of divine faithfulness, he sought God’s guidance anew. It was this divine strength that equipped David to outwit a formidable foe, to outpace an enemy who presumed victory was theirs, enabling David to devise a strategy against a tactical and ruthless adversary and emerge
victorious, reclaiming all as promised by God.
As we progress in our journey of prayer and intercession, let us be individuals who fortify ourselves in the Lord, seek His will, and rely on His strength to guide us in our pursuit. By doing so, we will surely recover all, just as the LORD has promised. When He commands us to pursue, we will, undoubtedly, reclaim everything we were sent to retrieve. 🏹
