It was a great honor for the alumni and current students of the Saint Gabriel Institute to meet with Ambassador Larisa Galadza, former Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine.

Ambassador Galadza spoke openly about her journey into diplomacy and the role of faith in her professional and personal life. In particular, she shared how her faith and church community carried and sustained her through the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, while she was serving as Ambassador to Ukraine.

Drawing on her diplomatic experience, she also offered valuable insights into working with people who find themselves on opposite sides of a border, a conflict, or a difficult issue. One thought stood out in particular: begin with the relationship. Genuine dialogue becomes possible when we encounter others as human beings and remain authentically ourselves.

Together, we reflected on how we can become more effective representatives of Ukraine and of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church—communicating with integrity and always upholding the dignity of the people and communities we represent.

We are deeply grateful to Ambassador Galadza for her openness, wisdom, and inspiring example of diplomacy rooted in faith and authentic human encounter.

Ukraine celebrates 35 years of restored independence today. These thirty-five years remind us that freedom and independence are not achievements completed once and for all, but a process that never ends. Americans, having recently marked 250 years of their own independence, know well how demanding that process can be and how differently each generation is called to pay its price.

Freedom also requires maturity. It must be constantly cultivated. In society, in our institutions, and in each human heart.

For Christians, freedom is a God-given right, rooted in the dignity of every person and every people. Yet authentic freedom can be achieved only in cooperation with God’s intention for humanity. We must therefore continually measure our understanding of freedom against His. Freedom for truth, responsibility, love, and service.

On this Independence Day, we congratulate all the students, alumni, friends, and followers of the Saint Gabriel Institute.

We remember with profound gratitude the late Senator Lindsey Graham , whose determined advocacy for Ukraine continues to bear fruit even after his passing.

For over a year, Senator Graham worked with Senator Richard Blumenthal and bipartisan colleagues to build support for sweeping new sanctions on Russia and those financing its war through Russian energy purchases. In his final days, he was still advancing this effort and helped secure agreement with the White House on its revised form.

Less than a month after his death, the U.S. Senate passed the Senator Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026 by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 86–11.

For us, Ukrainians, this is more than legislation. Russia’s war is sustained not only by force, but by the revenues that fuel its aggression. Senator Graham understood that economic pressure is essential to achieving a just and lasting peace.

We are deeply grateful for his friendship, his clarity about Russian aggression, and his tireless commitment to this cause.

On this Fourth of July, the Saint Gabriel Institute warmly congratulates the people of the United States of America on the 250th anniversary of American independence.

We give thanks for this country, where the ideals of dignity, freedom, rule of law, and responsible civic life have shaped generations. We also remember with gratitude the many Ukrainians who, over more than a century, came to this land, worked hard, built communities, served faithfully, and contributed to the common good.

It is here, in the United States, that the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church called the Saint Gabriel Institute into service. It is here that we bring students from Ukrainian Church communities around the world to study, to encounter American public life, and to learn from a political tradition that seeks to protect human dignity and freedom.

Today, as Ukraine defends these same values with great sacrifice, we pray that the friendship between America and Ukraine may continue to bear good fruit — in truth, justice, solidarity, and peace.

May God bless the United States of America.

On June 2–3, fellows of the St. Gabriel Institute presented their final projects, reflecting on their experience in Washington, D.C.

We were deeply inspired by the creativity, dedication, and vision presented over these two days. It is a joy to see how the experience of the Institute has shaped projects that seek to serve the Church, society, and the common good!

On the first day, we heard presentations from:

On May 27–28, fellows of the St. Gabriel Institute visited seven congressional offices in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.


During these meetings, we advocated for two bills:
1) Russia’s War on Faith Act – about persecution in occupied territories;
2) Designating the Russian Federation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism Act.

Advocacy is an important part of the St. Gabriel Institute’s formation program, helping fellows learn how to represent the voice of Ukraine and the Church in the public sphere.

We are grateful to each office for their time, openness, and willingness to listen. Thank you for your continued support of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Sacred Music Workshop

Our friends of Institute are organizing for a four-day workshop (Wednesday, July 29 to Sunday, August 2) devoted to Ukrainian sacred choral music for singers ages 16 and up, led by Musical Director Dr. Taras Myronyuk. Participants will study a selection of liturgical works while refining vocal technique, strengthening musicianship, and building confidence within a church choir setting.

This immersive program offers a unique opportunity to develop singing skills, explore different roles within the church choir, and connect with others who share a love of sacred music. Rehearsals and seminars will take place in the beautiful wooden St. Thomas Chapel at All Saints Camp in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, creating a prayerful and inspiring environment for study, collaboration, and artistic growth.

In addition to musical training, participants will enjoy the rustic beauty of the Allegheny Mountains and the fellowship of a community united by faith and song. The workshop concludes with a Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 2, where participants will share the music they have prepared throughout the week.
