Loaves and Fishes DC Annually, Loaves and Fishes serves more than 20,000 hot, nutritious meals at noon on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays.

Come join us as we serve the DC community! Loaves and Fishes has been providing free midday hot meals on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of the District of Columbia for more than 40 years. The program imposes no eligibility requirements for participation; guests define their own need for a meal. Last year, we served more than 30,000 meals to over 20,00

0 guests, an average of 275 meals and 180 guests each day we were open. Loaves and Fishes’ volunteer practices were cited twice by Fannie Mae as best practices for youth programs. Our collaboration with Samaritan Ministry’s Urban Experience Program, in which youth share a meal with our guests, and our practice of using youth volunteers to prepare and serve food, were cited as examples of effective youth education techniques. Our meals fulfill USDA dietary guidelines. They offer a serving of protein, usually chicken that has been trimmed of fat and baked, at least one vegetable or fruit and usually two, a grain, and a small dessert. In our recent survey, many guests noted quality of food among their reasons for coming to Loaves and Fishes.
