Refuge Agenda : October 17th

The next Refuge is coming up this Saturday, October 17th.

Brother's Lead
This Refuge will be a little different as Brother will be helping lead. He and I had a chance to talk the other day and he would like to challenge the guys to talk about why they are in their present state and where they are trying to go. This should be an exciting challenge for the guys and we will devote more time to discussion.

MOVIE:
The Refuge has become a safe place - a place of true fellowship. And in that safe place and through the friendships, we now have the opportunity to press in and ask bigger questions. I have realized that the men of the Refuge are men of great thought who long for a challenge in the right circumstances (and with a little hand holding). We will be introducing a movie documentary that touches on the concepts of expecting more, making an impact, and thinking differently. Our movie this week is Billions in change.

BIBLE STUDY:
Our Bible study will be on Cornerstones (Bethel Church). This isn't your average, everyday, run-of-the-mill foundational teaching. This is a little blow-your-mind, yeah-that's-really-it, holy-cow-I-never-thought-of-it-that-way, set the foundations and get ready to rock study of theological values that establish the Cornerstones of Thought.

Brief Summary:
Bill Johnson teaches on four core values of Bethel, and the behaviors that are expressed in us because of those cornerstones. God is good, so we are required to dream big. Because nothing is impossible, a huge part of our life is designed around taking risk. Everything that we will ever need was dealt with at the cross, so we must come to a place of trusting Him in everything. And lastly, because God has made us each to be significant, we must serve well.

YOUR INVITATION:
Join in the conversation. Come with questions, thoughts, experiences to share.

NOTE: Shifts have changed a little bit.

We are looking for people to join in gathering the men at Loaves and Fishes and helping them get to the church. This is the Driver Gatherers.

First shift has been pushed back a half an hour because our guys don't finish lunch at Loaves and Fishes until roughly 12:30.

However, we are in need of a setup crew to put the chairs and tables out as well as get the tv and dvd player setup. These folks will also get coffee started and prepare some snacks.

In addition to fellowship and supporting the Bible study, Second Shifters are typically asked to do the cleaning.

However, if you can only make it to help us with clean up, we would appreciate that help as well so we created the Clean Up Crew. Here's the important thing to remember, we need to make it look like the Refuge never happened which means cleaning the shower, bathrooms, wiping down tables, and taking out trash. We need individuals that will work alongside the men of the Refuge to help with cleanup.

Sign up for one of the following shifts:
DRIVER GATHERERS 11:30 @ the Van
SETUP CREW 11:45 - 12:30
FIRST SHIFT 12:30 - 3:30
SECOND SHIFT 3:30 - 7:00
CLEAN UP CREW 6:30

Raise the average,
Jeremy

The next Refuge event is coming up this Saturday the 17th.

Tangible task that could help The Refuge this week:

Erin and I have been helping to run The Refuge for nearly 4 years now. Each month as the Refuge date comes up we find ourselves SCRAMBLING for supplies.

We try to commit to the very basics:
1. Change of Underwear
2. Change of Socks
3. Undershirts (if possible)

We are working on developing "packages" that groups can commit to based on a rotating calendar (i.e. one group adopts the Refuge every 3rd month, every 6th month, etc).

Those are listed below:

Refuge donation pack 1:
1. Toiletries bags (toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, moisturizers, body wash/soap, floss, deodorant, razors, shaving cream)
2. Snacks for aprox. 30 people. (chips, cereal bars, popcorn, pretzels, string cheese, fruits and veggies)
3. 4 packs of Kool Aid, iced tea, fruit punch or lemonade.

Refuge donation pack 2:
1. Boxers and boxer briefs (1 pack of M-3 packs of L- 2 packs XL)
2. 2 big packs of each short sleeves undershirt/White T-Shirts (L- XL) and one of XXL.
3. 2 packs each of undershirt tank tops (L-XXL)
4. 2 packs of each white socks both long and footies
5. Snacks for aprox. 30 people. (chips, cereal bars, popcorn, pretzels, string cheese, fruits and veggies)
6. 4 packs of Kool Aid, iced tea, fruit punch or lemonade.

With all that said, right now we are back to scramble mode and wondering if any individuals / groups would be willing to adopt the Refuge for this month with just the very basics.

If you order online (i.e. Amazon, etc), you can have items shipped to Northwest Community Church for the Refuge.
