Since 1975, we are part of the UCC and the United Methodist Church, offering worship and cultural programs in both German and English. The United Church has been sharing God's unconditional love in Foggy Bottom since 1833. Our roots are in two Protestant traditions: Reformed (United Church of Christ) and Wesleyan (United Methodist), and two countries (the United States and Germany). We preach, teach, and embody a distinctive message: you are precious, sacred, and beloved of God, always.

„Music in Exile / Exilmusik – America250: A Concert for Friendship“ bringt Kammermusik von Komponisten, die in den 1930er und 40er Jahren ihre Heimat verlassen mussten, nach Washington, DC.

We concluded the evening with a wonderful reception in Roth Hall, full of great conversations and a warm sense of community. Our book exchange was a big hit, with lots of stories (and books!) finding new homes.
A huge shoutout to GW students Mihika, Mariam, Brian, Anastasia, and Julia for making everything run so smoothly.

Der Abend ging weiter mit einem lebendigen Empfang in Roth Hall, mit tollen Gesprächen, guter Stimmung und vielen Begegnungen. Vielen Dank an die GW-Studierenden des German Programs, die mitgeholfen haben.

📚 Lesung und Gespräch mit Tamar Shapiro

Herzliche Einladung zu einem besonderen Literaturabend!
Die Autorin Tamar Shapiro liest aus ihrem Debütroman "Restitution" und gibt Einblicke in die Entstehungsgeschichte sowie ihre persönliche Verbindung zum Buch.

Der Roman erzählt von zwei Geschwistern, deren Familie in den 1950er-Jahren aus der DDR fliehen musste. Nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer stehen sie vor der Frage, ob sie das Haus ihrer Großeltern zurückfordern sollen – und damit auch ein Stück ihrer eigenen Familiengeschichte.

Im Anschluss an die Lesung gibt es Gelegenheit zum Gespräch.

Restitution has been named one of Town & Country Magazine’s “49 Must-Read Books of Fall 2025” and explores questions of family, inheritance, and what it means to make things right.
