The Church of the Brethren works to live out of our tradition as a historic peace church by seeking to become a living peace church, through the many issues of peace and justice. The church and Christians are called by God to witnes

s to the gospel of peace with such intensity that nations repent and history is changed. Less than a radical witness can only lead us to accept idols of materialism, blind nationalism, the glorification of military strength, dependence on technological solutions for human problems, and personal and national security at the expense of justice.

Last week, Marcia from the Office of Peacebuilding and Policy joined Back from the Brink and other faith organizations to hand-deliver a letter on behalf of over 250 local elected officials across the country — urging members of the House to co-sponsor H. Res. 317 and members of the Senate to co-sponsor S. Res. 323. The resolutions call for a national commitment to reducing nuclear risk and advancing policies that move us back from the brink.

This advocacy work continues the commitment of the Church of the Brethren to peacebuilding and prevention of nuclear war.

Churches for Middle East Peace released a statement expressing "alarm and condemnation of recent statements by President Trump threatening catastrophic violence against Iran including rhetoric suggesting that “a whole civilization will die tonight.” Such language, evoking the destruction of an entire people, stands in direct opposition to the core tenets of the Christian faith, which call us to uphold the sanctity of life, pursue peace, and recognize the inherent dignity of every human being."

The Church of the Brethren is a member organization of Churches for Middle East Peace. Read the rest of the public statement here:
