United Church of Christ Washington D.C. Office

United Church of Christ Washington D.C. Office The United Church of Christ Office of Public Policy & Advocacy is the advocacy arm of the United Church of Christ. No personal attacks.

Justice and Witness Ministries, one of four Covenanted Ministries in the UCC, helps local congregations and all settings of the church respond to God's commandments to do justice, seek peace and effect change for a better world. The work of JWM is guided by the pronouncements and resolutions approved by the UCC at General Synod, and enacted through education in our immersion centers, resources for

our local churches and policy advocacy on the federal level. Community Guidelines:
We love to engage in dialogue. To make sure the conversation stays productive, prayerful and welcoming we ask commenters to observe the following guidelines:

πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ The Religious Freedom Restoration Act has increasingly been invoked to justify discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, restrict reproductive healthcare, weaken worker protections, and deny services to marginalized communities. The Do No Harm Act provides a balanced approach that safeguards genuine religious liberty while protecting the dignity and civil rights of all people.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ί The United Church of Christ is proud to co-sponsor the Cuba Faith Action Hour, happening Monday June 15th!

The humanitarian crisis in Cuba continues to worsen. Church partners report severe shortages of medicines, medical supplies, fuel, and food that are affecting communities across the island. Hospitals struggle to obtain essential supplies, blackouts regularly disrupt daily life, and many families are finding it increasingly difficult to meet basic needs. For some, these shortages have become a matter of life and death.

At a time when the stakes are so high for the Cuban people, Congress needs to hear from constituents who support policies that promote peace and help alleviate suffering.

As the House prepares to vote on an additional $70 billion exclusively for ICE/CBP (on top of the $150 billion agencies already received from HR 1) faith leaders and congregants rallied in Washington to urge the House to vote NO on this immoral bill.

We want our tax dollars used for a moral budget that addresses the growing affordability crisis, food insecurity, and lack of affordable health care β€” not to create more harm.

Thank you to Interfaith Immigration Coalition, Refugee Council USA and Congregation Action Network for organizing this convening.

πŸ—“οΈ Join us Wednesday, June 17th, 6:00-7:00 pm ET, for an online ecumenical worship service in observance of World Refugee Day.

🧑 With the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program frozen since January 2025 and resettled refugees facing an onslaught of diminishing protections and expanding threats, it is more important than ever to gather in lament, solidarity, and celebration of the right to seek refuge.

🧑 With contributions from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Church of the Brethren, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Pacifica Synod ELCA, and the United Church of Christ, we will worship through prayer, art, music, and reflections from pastors with their own stories of migration.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ This Pride Month, the Rev. Elder Carmarion D. Anderson, Minister for Congregational Leadership at the National Ministries United Church of Christ reflects on the church's responsibility to embody God's love for our transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary siblings.

It is Pride Month. And FCC Chair Brendan Carr wants TV ratings to label shows that include transgender and nonbinary characters as if they are dangerous content. Trans people are our neighbors and our fellow congregants. More than 5 million children in this country have LGBTQ+ parents. They are not a danger to anyone.
