Weekend in Review: OVERFLOW

What a joyful week of firsts in the life of our church!

This morning, we gathered to worship and finished our series in Colossians, looking at Colossians 4:2–18. We were reminded that we are part of God’s mission, called to be a light through faithful prayer, wise living, gracious speech, and lives that point others to Jesus Christ. As Paul closed his letter, we also saw examples of the light in the ordinary faithfulness of God’s people serving together for the sake of the gospel.

There was so much to celebrate in our church family as well. We rejoiced in the birth of a new baby and celebrated two engagements, giving thanks for the many ways the Lord continues to grow and bless the church!

This week also marked our annual Wiffleball tournament, where small groups competed and joy filled the day. We had our highest attendance yet and raised more than double last year’s total for FCA DC, helping house student athletes for camp this summer. Thank you church!

And this morning, not that anyone’s counting, we were overflowing with new faces like never before! Church, we are praising God for all he is doing among us. May we continue to live as people sent on mission, shining the light of Christ wherever he places us.

Weekend in Review: Together

This morning, we gathered to worship and continued our series in Colossians, looking at Colossians 3:18 through 4:1. In this passage, we saw that following Christ shapes every area of life, from our homes and relationships to our work and responsibilities. The gospel is not something we simply believe on Sundays; it transforms the way we live, serve, and love throughout the week.

There was also much to celebrate within our church family. We welcomed new members into the life of our church and prayed over two members as they prepare to move south and begin a new season. We also rejoiced in the birth of a new baby to two wonderful members of our congregation, thanking God for His continued kindness and faithfulness.

Throughout the week, our men’s ministry gathered for its monthly breakfast, providing an opportunity for fellowship, encouragement, and deeper relationships among the men of our church.

One of the biggest highlights of the week was the launch of another summer of KCC (King’s Church Collective). Each year, interns arrive in Washington, DC from across the country, and we want them to find more than a temporary community, we want them to find a church family. This year’s kickoff was our largest yet, with more than 150 attending a Nationals game, hundreds joining us for a post-service lunch, and many gathering for a field day on Saturday. It was especially encouraging to see so many new faces in our service this morning as interns continue arriving in the city.

Church, as God continues to bring new people into our midst and grow our church family, may we be faithful to welcome others, invest deeply in one another, and live out the gospel together.

Weekend in Review: ABOVE - It’s Memorial Day weekend, and we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is a sobering reminder of the cost of freedom, and we are grateful for the courage and selflessness of so many. We also recognize the families who carry that loss, and we remember with gratitude.

This morning, we gathered to worship and continued our series in Colossians, looking at Colossians 3:1–14. In this passage, we are called to set our minds on things above, putting to death what is earthly in us and putting on the new self in Christ. It’s a clear picture of the Christian life, not just what we turn from, but what we are called to walk in as God’s people, marked by compassion, kindness, humility, and love. This is the kind of life that is formed and strengthened in the context of the church - being known, knowing others, and being part meaningfully.

There was also much to celebrate in the life of our church this week. We rejoiced in the wedding of two of our members on Friday, a beautiful picture of God’s design and faithfulness. In addition, we had a tearful goodbye to two others members moving to another state who have labored here greatly over the years for the sake of the gospel.

This weekend also marked the launch of our King’s Church Collective (KCC) summer season. Each year, thousands of interns come to DC, and we want to be a place that welcomes them into a faithful, Christ centered community. We kicked things off with a game night and a post-church lunch today, and we’re excited for all that the Lord will do in the weeks ahead.

We also wrapped up our EQUIP class, thankful for the ways God has used it to deepen our understanding and strengthen the church.

Church, as we remember, gather, and grow, may we be a people who set our minds on Jesus Christ and live out the new life he has given us together.

Weekend in Review: CHURCH - This morning, we gathered again as a church family to worship and continued our series in Colossians, looking at Colossians 2:16–23. In this passage, Paul warns believers not to be taken captive by outward appearances of spirituality, man-made standards, or religious performance detached from Christ and his body. Instead, we are called to hold fast to Christ, the head of the church, from whom the whole body is nourished, strengthened, and grows together.

In a world constantly pulling Christians toward substitutes for true spiritual life, this passage was a needed reminder that God does not call us merely to spiritual moments, public displays, or external forms of religion. He calls us to remain deeply connected to Christ through the ordinary, beautiful means he has established: life together in the local church, worship, discipleship, truth, prayer, communion, and the shared life of his people. Real spiritual maturity is not found in spectacle or self-made spirituality, but in being rooted and built up together in Christ and his church.

There was also much to celebrate within our church family this morning. We thanked God for a staff member as she transitions into a new season, welcomed new members into our church family, and sent out another couple as they move to a different state. These moments remind us both of the joy of growth and the faith it takes to send, trusting God’s work in every season of life.

Throughout the week, our women’s ministry hosted their monthly brunch, creating space for connection, encouragement, and time in God’s Word together. These rhythms continue to strengthen the relationships that make up our church and deepen our life together.

Church, may we continue to hold fast to Christ, not settling for shallow substitutes or outward appearances of spirituality, but growing together as his body in truth, love, unity, and faithful commitment to the church he purchased with his own blood.

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophies and empty deceit…” - Colossians 2:8

Have you noticed how modern ideologies are becoming more and more all-encompassing?

More than politics. More than opinions.

When an ideology starts telling people:
- who they are
- what’s wrong with the world
- and what will save us

…it’s no longer just an opinion. It starts functioning like a religion.

And many people today are building their identity, morality, meaning, and hope on ideologies without even realizing it.

But every rival gospel eventually enslaves because it gives you an identity you have to perform and a salvation you have to maintain.

Only Jesus Christ gives you an identity you didn’t earn and a salvation that is already finished.

Don’t get captured. Keep walking with Jesus.

Weekend in Review: Happy Mother’s Day! Today we pause to give thanks for the mothers and mother figures in our lives, women who love, serve, sacrifice, and reflect God’s care in countless ways. We are grateful for you and pray that you feel encouraged and honored today.

This morning, we gathered to worship and continued our series in Colossians, looking at Colossians 2:6–15. We were reminded that just as we received Christ, we are called to continue walking in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith. In a world that constantly pulls us in different directions, this passage calls us to stay anchored in Jesus, not adding to Him or moving beyond Him, but growing deeper in him.

There was also much to mark and celebrate within our church family this morning. We had the joy of celebrating a wedding among our members, a beautiful picture of God’s design and faithfulness. At the same time, we sent out a member, praying over her as she steps into a new season.

This weekend, our REC ministry also hosted a pickleball and potluck day. With over 100 King’s Church friends and family in attendance, it was a meaningful opportunity to gather, meet new people, and enjoy time together outside of a typical Sunday setting. These kinds of moments continue to strengthen the relationships that make up our church and remind us of the joy of doing life together!

Church, as we reflect on all that God is doing, in our gatherings, in our celebrations, and in our everyday lives, may we be a people who remain rooted in Christ. Not distracted, not drifting, but grounded in the truth of who he is and what he has done!

Weekend in Review: GROWING UP - Did you know that over the last year and a half, our church has experienced a remarkable baby boom? It has been a visible, tangible reminder that God is growing his church not just spiritually, but physically.

This morning, we had the privilege of dedicating three children publicly to the Lord, as we charged the parents to raise their children in the Lord and, together as a congregation, committed ourselves to support and help shepherd these families in the years ahead.

Following this theme, we opened God’s Word in our Colossians series looking at 1:24–2:5, where were reminded of our clear and compelling calling: that we may grow up in Christ. What is most important and most defining in your life is not your season, status, or stage but Christ in you the hope of glory.

Throughout the week, there were many ways our church continued to grow and fellowship with one another too. Our family zoo day brought together around dozens of people, we continued our women’s Bible study, and launched our New Member Meet and Greet to welcome those who have recently joined.

We also had the joy of welcoming new members into our church family as God continues to grow our community. Alongside that, we celebrated the birth of a baby boy, rejoicing in God’s continued kindness in our congregation.

Church, as we proclaim Christ together with our lives and lips, may we be shaped by the message we carry, growing into maturity in him, rooted in his truth, and faithful to make him known in every part of our lives.

Weekend in Review: BEHOLD - In a weekend that reminded our city how fragile things can be, we were called again to behold something unshakable: Jesus Christ.

This morning, we did just that continuing our series in Colossians. Many may know His name, but the question set before us was deeper: do you know his face? We were reminded that Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. The one above all, the sustainer of all things, the head of the church, and the crucified King. This passage calls us beyond familiarity into clarity, to truly behold him for who he is.

That same joy carried into the life of our church family as we celebrated the birth of a child among us, a reminder of God’s ongoing work and faithfulness.

It was also an encouraging week across our ministries. At our men’s breakfast, two members shared their testimonies, strengthening and building up the body. Our women’s ministry launched a new Bible study walking through the story of Scripture, and a Military BBQ, hosted by two of our members, served those in our church who are serving our country.

Church, as we continue to grow together, may we not settle for simply knowing about Jesus, but press on to truly see him, trust him, and follow him with our whole lives.
