Friendship Place Walk to End Homelessness (this year held on April 25th) is the annual walk in our nation’s capital aimed at bringing awareness and resources to the work to end homelessness. We are working towards a common goal—ending homelessness for every man, woman, and child in each of our communities.

All proceeds benefit Friendship Place, a nonprofit organization that offers the most effective model for addressing homelessness. Friendship Place's innovative programs empower participants to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs, and reconnect with friends, family, and the community, permanently!

Dear Friends,

Easter week at Blessed Sacrament was exhilarating and delightful. We had seven Masses on Easter Sunday alone, with standing room only at three of them. The numbers of souls that came to celebrate Christ’s Resurrection and our new life was very heartening. The church was beautiful, the liturgies were heavenly, and the good spirit of all who participated made for a very joyful day.

On the Second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, we were blessed to have our archbishop celebrate with us the 10:30 Mass. Cardinal McElroy spoke very personally about the peace he feels through faith in Christ and the power of the Resurrection. The good news is that the peace of Christ is available to all of us. The cardinal graciously spent an hour after Mass greeting parishioners in the parish center. Thank you to those of you who were able to meet him and make him feel so welcome. I know that he enjoyed his time with us and we talked a little bit about a future visit.

Later that same evening the cardinal was featured on the 60 Minutes television broadcast. He spoke, along with two other American cardinals, about Pope Leo XIV, and on some of the troubling issues that the pope and the bishops are speaking out on. Cardinal McElroy is thoughtful, measured, gracious and brilliant. We are blessed to have him as our archbishop. In only one year the Church of Washington is very much experiencing tremendous growth, pastoral zeal, and competent administration. I hope that you are as proud and excited to be a part of this local church as I am. The Church of Washington makes a huge difference in the lives of her disciples, but also in the lives of so many that those disciples influence and serve. We are blessed at Blessed Sacrament to be among those disciples making a difference.

Thank you all for your participation in making Blessed Sacrament the truly lovely community that it is.

The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery.

Last night, we entered into the Triduum with a beautiful Mass of the Lord's Supper.

Today, we will gather at 3:00PM to observe Good Friday of the Lord's Passion. All are welcome.
