The Christian Photographer

The Christian Photographer "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.

The Christian Photographer is an online community of people who have been transformed by the gospel of Christ and have an interest to share that part of their lives with those, amateur and professionals who also share their affinity for photography. You are serving the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23

The Christian Photographer is an organization of Christians who have a passion for photography. The

Christian Photographer looks to encourage, exhort and build up both professional and amateur, video and still photographers in their craft and their lives as followers of Christ. This will be done through the website with featured photographers, stories and discussions of faith and photography. In the future we will hold regional seminars, photography contests and a yearly conference in Orlando, Florida. These are lofty goals—but after all, we serve a big God.

Good read!

And then Paul says, “or whatever you do.” Wow, so no matter what it is we do — everything — the most mundane, unimportant stuff in our life, should be “for the glory of God.”

RAINBOW WARRIORS

The first time that I saw Jeff Gordon was in 1992 at Charlotte when he was driving the Baby Ruth car in NASCAR's JV league. I was there photographing Terry Labonte for a calendar for his sponsor - MW Windows. My first though on Gordon was, "He sure is small!"

Well he might be small, but he's turned out to be one of the finest race car driver around, period. The following year he moved into Winston Cup and into the history books. The title - Rainbow Warriors is a reference to his Pit Crew and the DuPont paint scheme on his car.

A DRIED OUT SPONGE
It's been over 2 1/2 years since the last post here on The Christian Photographer. A long time that I did not see coming.

In church a few Sunday's ago a woman spoke and said " Some of us are like a sponge that has dried out. A dried out sponge has no use. But once you begin to add water, it will begin to get softer and with enough water it becomes sponge again."

Her words described my journey through these last five years.

Sponges don't dry out in a day, neither did I. God never left me during this time. Continually providing enough water for me to not dry out. Although there was a moment that I felt dry, He met me right at that moment and carried me.

So now it's time to move forward and see what God wants to do with this page and idea.

This page is open to all who fit into it's title. If you are a Christian and have a passion or interest in Photography, then join in and share your - Faith, Photography and the Grace of God.

Also let others know about it.

Lastly ….. Thank you to the 100 people that have Liked this "sponge in need of water."

Dear Friends and fellow Christian Photographers,

A little over a year ago, the Christian Photographer - page was launched.

At the time I was exited in following and implementing what God was spurring me to do. Although the task at hand was overwhelming, I moved forward with much anticipation on what God was going to accomplish. Little did I know then the road that lay before me.

The road I was traveling was a little different from the one God wanted me on. In 1 Peter5:6 it says,
“Humble yourselves therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.”

Well: I didn't humble myself, I thought I could carry my anxieties better than Him, I wasn't sober-minded and I was blind. The end result – I was devoured.

This last year in some ways presents a picture of the background behind The Christian Photographer (TCP). The vision that God gave me for TCP was one of a community of believers that had a passion for photography. A place (an organization) where we can share our belief and our art with one another. A group that includes the amateur alongside the professional encouraging one another and supporting each other by sharing those struggles that come to all of us, both spiritually and professionally.

In 1 Peter 4:8-11 it encourages us to do so; “Above all keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift (photography) , use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks (photographs), as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves (teaches or shares their photography experience) , as one who serves by the strength that God supplies–in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen”

2011 turned out to be worst year in my life. I allowed my circumstances to dictate and direct me. My financial world crumbled around me, my house went deeply underwater and meeting my mortgage became harder and harder on a monthly basis. A full-time job evaporated and three years of part-time work began to wear me out. I felt like a failure, withdrew from my family and those that love me, photography lost it's luster. Instead of turning to God, I withdrew into an Andy pity party.

But God, in his mercy has blessed me with a godly wife (Deby) who is a fighter who didn't give up on me. He's given me, two dear friends (Marc & Scott) that stood by me, loved me and reminded me of all God has done and is doing, pastors that cared for my soul and a vibrant church I call home. He's given me godly photographers friends (Rafael, Dave & Quigg) to encourage me to keep shooting. They gave me what I envision TCP giving others: photographers encouraging one another in the love and grace of God. And lastly there is Bill Fortney; his website brought me much comfort and led me to prayer during this time. His Pilgrim's Chronicles blog is like “a voice in the wilderness.” http://billfortney.com/?cat=3 .

1 Peter 5:9 tells us; “Resist him firm in your faith knowing that the same kinds of sufferings are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.”

One of the main lessons that I (re) learned through this time was from the above verse. Many of the doubts, feelings and situations that I went through, many of you have (or are) experienced. We just seem to think that we are alone. I will step out and state that many photographers fight the battle of not thinking they are good enough. Well like the verse says, “...the same kinds of sufferings are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.”

I'm OK now. I'm back on the right road and I feel God wants to do something with TCP. I will begin to post on the page this week. I will let Him guide it. I would love to see others post uplifting stories (and links) that will build up all of us. Also pass the word around about TCP.

Also work will begin on a website: TheChristianPhotographer.com. I need your help, suggestions, support and encouragement. Please send me links to christian photographers that we might be able to feature on the site. Send them to: [email protected]

In the end, 1 Peter 5:10-11 - “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen”

By His grace, I'm being restored.

A look at some pictures taken on the film that rocked the photography world. When I first started shooting, I asked a photographer for some nuggets of wisdom. He went to his refrigerator and came back with a handful of film. He handed me six rolls of Kodachrome and said, "Go out and take some pictures." I'm waiting for my last 3 rolls to return from being developed at Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, KS.

Bill Fortney - New Beginnings; Part 2

Happy New Year! New Beginnings; Part 1 - There are many photographers whose work I admire, Bill Fortney is one of them. But more important than his photography is his Faith. His Blog: The Pilgrim's Chronicles lifts me up when I'm low, it draws me back to God, while allowing me to see his creation through his Nikon's.

Do you have a ton of pictures, negatives and slides you want to digitize? In photography you can sometimes look at the price of equipment and tell if it might be good or not worth it. Good equipment is expensive! My Nikon film scanner (for slides and negatives) is expensive, but the results are fantastic and 10 years later still works fine. But if you want to save money and digitize your images look at this INEXPEN

There are many ways to turn your treasure-trove of slides, negatives and prints into digital image files. Here’s a scanner that can do it all. For $80, can it deliver the quality you need?
