DC Reformed Church

DC Reformed Church God gathers, equips and sends us to offer hospitality and hope.

We are an inclusive community of believers who nurture our faith in community so we are equipped to live out our beliefs through service in our homes, communities, and workplaces. Affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church in North America since our organization in 1943, the Washington, DC Christian Reformed Church (DCCRC) is a diverse group of people who care deeply for each other. Despite dif

ferences in church background, age, race, socioeconomic status, and political perspective, when we gather in a circle once a month for communion, our church really feels like one body. Welcoming, embracing, and valuing all members of the congregation’s richly varied population is a vital element of our congregation.

At DC Reformed Church, we find ourselves in a liminal space—between denominations, between pastors, and in the midst of unpredictable, uncertain times. It feels like a season of wilderness and wandering.

As we prepare for Advent, we will journey with the Israelites through the book of Exodus. Together, we will grieve what has been lost and reflect on what we’ve left behind. But we will also open our eyes to recognize where God is at work among us.

Even in the wilderness, God faithfully showed up for the Israelites—in both ordinary and extraordinary ways. God's deepest desire has always been to dwell with God's people. And so, we hold fast to the promise: we do not walk through this season alone.

Join us for worship at 11:00am in-person at 5911 New Hampshire Ave. NW, Washington, DC, or online on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com//streams).

This fall, we continue to delve into the book of Revelation with our "Follow the Lamb" sermon series.

When the people of God face persecution, lose their fights, and endure civic turbulence, how might God call us to respond? Written to Christians who felt flattened beneath the force of the empire, the book of Revelation is an unveiling of God’s coming plan for victory. As we catch a glimpse of John’s visions, we’ll see that these pages of prophecy, symbolism, and imagery are not meant to mystify—rather, they magnify our view of Jesus Christ. The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, stands at the center of all things in cosmic history, calling his followers to endure, persevere, and remain faithful to the end of the age.

Our summer series will follow Jesus, who is on a preaching tour through seven churches in Asia Minor. Speaking through John the Seer, Christ has a message for the victories and vulnerabilities of these churches. As we listen to what Christ said to them, we will take on “ears to hear” and ask: What might the Spirit be saying to the church in Washington, DC?

Follow along with these questions:

1. We often categorize Revelation 2–3 as seven letters. Why is the letter genre unhelpful here? What would be a better category?

2. What is the meaning of the “seven stars” and the “seven lampstands”? What does it mean to say that each church has an “angel”?

3. What does Jesus mean when he says the Ephesians have “lost their first love”?

Ecclesiastes doesn’t sugar-coat life. For a culture obsessed with youth and progress, this wisdom book offers a necessary—and sometimes grim—counterbalance. As such, Ecclesiastes’ brutal honesty has been interpreted as pessimism. But perhaps we need this honesty in our own lives. Perhaps we need to confront the contradictions that remain under the sun.

This Lent, during our worship services we will join the Teacher of Ecclesiastes to find meaning in fleeting, chaotic times.

Worship gives us the opportunity to bring all the words that are ready to leap from our hearts to our lips—even the feelings of pain, anger, and lament—knowing that our Father hears them.

On Sunday, February 23 our worship service will offer us space to lament the pain we feel in our city and lives, to remember God's faithfulness in our callings, and to declare our faith in community. We will sing together, hear God's Word, and give time for testimonies and guided sharing.

Our service is based on Lamentations 2:18–19. As Jeremiah brought God the pain of his city, we will bring God the pain in our city. We will follow Jeremiah's command to "pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord."

We look forward to worshiping together—in a time of instability, it is a gift and balm to gather, week after week, as Christ's beloved community.

*Note*: There will be no YouTube livestream this Sunday.
