ON THIS DAY IN 1901:
St. David’s was dedicated on June 2, 1901, as a mission chapel on Conduit Road (today’s
MacArthur Boulevard NW), just west of Chain Bridge Road. “St. Alban’s Mission Chapel”
became “St. David’s Chapel” in 1904. In 1909 the building was moved 500 feet along Conduit
Road to a site on the east side of Chain Bridge Road; when street addresses were assigned, St.
David’s Chapel was at 4961 Conduit Road NW. Final services at this location were held in
October 1939. In 1940, the cornerstone for a new chapel was laid at the present site of St.
David’s Episcopal Church, Klingle Road and Macomb Street NW.
~ Many thanks to Cathy Ball, St. David's parishioner and resident archivist, for collecting and sharing this information! The photos shown here indicate the second site of St. David's Chapel, after it was moved 500 feet in 1909.
