ABOVE THE NOISE
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” — John 10:27
We live in a noisy world.
Every day, countless voices compete for our attention. News, social media, responsibilities, opinions, expectations, fears, and even our own thoughts can become so loud that we struggle to hear what God is saying.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice.” There is something powerful in those words. Sheep recognize their shepherd because they have spent time near him. They have learned the sound of his voice. Recognizing God's voice grows out of our relationship with Him. The more time we spend in His Word, prayer, and His presence, the more familiar His voice becomes.
In 1 Samuel 3, Samuel heard God calling but did not immediately recognize His voice. Eventually, Eli instructed him to respond, “Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9).
Maybe that needs to become our prayer today.
“Lord, help me hear You above the noise.”
Above the voice of fear.
Above the pressure of people.
Above the distractions of life.
Above my own assumptions and desires.
Speak, Lord. I am listening.
But hearing God is about more than receiving direction. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
Hearing leads to following.
When God speaks through His Word, obey Him. When the Holy Spirit brings conviction, respond to Him. When God redirects your steps, trust Him enough to follow, even when you cannot see where the road ahead is leading. Psalm 119:105 reminds us, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God may not reveal the entire journey, but He gives us enough light to take the next step in obedience.
Today, turn down the noise. Open His Word. Spend some time in prayer. Quiet your heart before Him.
You may discover that God has not been silent at all.
His voice has been there all along—calling you to listen, trust, and follow Him above the noise.
“Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.” — 1 Samuel 3:9
