On June 28th Andrew Beverly's sermon on 6:1–9 taught us that and honoring parents are essential expressions of a Spirit-filled Christian life. Building on Paul's teaching about mutual submission, he explains that children are called to obey and honor their parents as an act of faith, with God's promise of blessing attached to this command. He illustrated the importance of honesty and accountability through a childhood story about borrowing his father's tools. The sermon also addresses the responsibilities of parents to raise their children with loving discipline, and of employees and employers to treat one another with integrity and respect as they ultimately serve Christ. He concluded that is not a sign of weakness but a fruit of the Holy Spirit, requiring believers to overcome their natural tendency toward selfishness and live in loving obedience to God.

Fathers a Picture of a Heavenly Father

Dads, do you know you are a picture of the Father up above
Whose heart is on His children and He cares for them in love?
When we tell them of a father to lovingly obey,
They will think of all the things you used to do and say.

Did you pray for God to lead you as a father you became?
Did you trust in Him to lead you and your wife to do the same?
Some fathers are not loving, but harsh in word and tone,
So how would children want to trust in Father God alone?

Would He treat them in the same way they were treated by your hand?
Or would they confidently approach Him as when with you they'd stand?
Would they come to love the Word of God as you've taught them it's all true?
And find the peace and joy that comes from reading it with you.

I learned about God by watching my father here below.
He taught me how He loved us and died for my sins and so,
I put my trust in God and asked the Lord to be my own,
Because of all the many seeds my father here had sown.

Look unto the Father and learn then how to live,
Caring for your family and faithfully to give.
