The 2026-2027 FYI Northern Neck lecture series begins next Thursday, September 17th. All lectures in the series will be held on the 3rd Thursday of each month and begin at 7 PM at St. James Episcopal Church, 15870 Kings Hwy., in Montross. Parking is available in the rear and is accessible from Rectory Rd. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and light refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but shelf-stable food for the St. James Food Pantry is always welcome.

September's lecture, titled Shipwrecks of the Potomac & Chesapeake, will be presented by Steve Merritt, an experienced diver. Mr. Merritt noted that his presentation covers the dive scene of the 1980s and 1990s, a period when many shipwrecks were discovered and regularly explored. The lecture will feature artifacts and pictures from an earlier era, when maritime disasters occurred more frequently in both war and peace, focusing on the human experiences of those on board.

On Sunday August 30th, St. James and St. Paul's Episcopal Churches held their first annual "United Ministries of Westmoreland County Sunday". The service featured guest speakers from UMWC, Shawn Farrington, Director, and Treadwell Davison, member of the Executive Board. The loose plate collection was designated for UMWC, and the congregation was also invited to offer checks to UMWC. Over $600 was collected for the good work of UMWC in our community, preventing homelessness and helping those in need of medical care. St. James and St. Paul's are grateful to be a part of the coalition of UMWC.

This is the 5th Sunday of August! Our service today is at St. James in Montross at 11:15. The music today will be led by Rick Curtis and Phil McKenney.
