Deaconess Miriam Porter gave black history presentations on: Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche who was the only black man on the Titanic, Charles Jackson French who was a United States Navy sailor known for his heroic actions in the Pacific Theater of World War II, Ella and Frank Foster who owned and operated the Elfra Court Motel (1950-1975), which was the 1st Black- owned motel in Wildwood, New Jersey, and Millie and Christine McKoy (1851–1912) were famous African American conjoined twins born into slavery in North Carolina.
