ICYMI: This week's sermon was a continuation of our study through the Book of Galatians. Pastor Bill takes us through Galatians 3:23-29 showing how the Apostle Paul distinguishes between the corrective nature of the law and the graciousness found in Faith. Click the link below to listen the sermon entitled "The Law and Faith Contrasted" as well as the entirety of our Lord's Day worship service.

Hope your Monday morning is going well so far. Here is a great song from CityAlight, "Yet Not I But Christ Through Me" to help continue filling your morning with the steadfast mercy and abounding grace of God. For further devotion, read Galatians 2 and Philippians 3.

Happy Reformation Day!
507 years ago, a Roman Catholic monk named Martin Luther sought to start a scholarly discussion with the Roman Catholic Church on the principle of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, rather than through ]grace plus works, faith plus indulgences, and Christ plus the Church. His attempt to start the discussion by nailing his now renowned "95 Theses" on the castle door in Wittenberg, Germany quickly turned into what we call today the "Protestant Reformation." Luther, as well as the likes of John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, John Knox, and William Tyndale, would help to bring back the church at large to the basis of Scripture alone rather than tradition and bring the focus back to the Glory of God alone rather than the glory of man!

Sola Fide- "Through Faith Alone"
"Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1). We are saved by grace and the means of such saving grace is faith in the finished work of Christ. Faith is generated from the Holy Spirit's regenerating work and results in genuine repentance and good works. Good works do not save, but are brought on from genuine saving faith. Faith is coming to the realization that you are a sinner, totally unable to save yourself, and trusting completely in Jesus, the eternal Son of God, as the only sufficient way to forgiveness through His atoning work on the Cross. This saving faith justifies the sinner before the Father, imputes the righteousness of the Son upon that sinner, and gives the sinner a guarantee and seal through the Spirit for eternal life. Your good works do not save you, but only through faith alone.

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we boast in hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:1-2

Sola Gratia - "By Grace Alone"
We are saved by God's grace, or unmerited favor, alone. There is not a work we can do on our own that can save us from sin. It is only the finished work of Christ on Calvary to appease the wrath of the Father and from there the life giving work of the Holy Spirit that gives you a new heart that can call out by faith and repentance to salvation from eternal condemnation, complete separation from the fellowship of God. Our works are not, and will never be, enough to save, but only by God's grace.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Ephesians 2:8-10 LSB

Q: What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him?
A: The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him
