Our Trials: Allowed by God

The Lord never permits hardship unless He has a beautiful purpose.

Read: 1 Peter 1:3-9

Some people have the wrong idea about the Christian life. Once they become believers, they expect everything to be smooth sailing. Yet Jesus made it clear that troubles are inevitable, even for God’s children (John 16:33). His own life was no exception.

So, even as His followers, we can expect difficulty, though the causes of tribulation differ with each circumstance. Some problems arise from the fallen nature of the world, while others result from ignorance, sin, or poor decisions. There’s also another possibility, sometimes God Himself allows trials.

While this last option is hard to accept during painful times, we should remember the Lord never permits hardship unless He has a beautiful purpose for it. And He promises to give us strength to endure.

That’s why, when we encounter struggles, it’s important for us to keep in mind that they can be for our benefit. Perhaps they are intended to purify and grow us. Maybe God’s purpose is to test our endurance and devotion, strengthening our trust.

Or He might be revealing His sustaining power. This side of heaven, we may never know the cause, but we can trust the Lord’s character and ability to deliver us.

What trials are you facing? Jesus understands your pain and longs to be the One you cling to in both good times and bad.

Waiting for Answered Prayers

The Lord may delay His response to your request, but He is never late.

Read: Psalm 33:20-22

Scripture makes it clear that our heavenly Father hears and answers prayer. But there have been times when we’ve all had to wait. What are some reasons He might delay answering us?

Our relationship with God should have priority over any earthly matter (Mark 12:30), yet our minds and prayers can become so fixed upon what we need that our gaze shifts away from Him. So the Father may be delaying His answer until we refocus our attention rightly.

In other situations, God waits because the timing is not right for granting our request.

There are seasons when the Lord wants to stretch and grow our faith. One of the ways He accomplishes this is by having us watch for His response. The Spirit will work in these times of waiting to mature us and bring forth fruit (Gal. 5:22-23).

Other reasons for a delay include asking with a wrong motive (James 4:3) or engaging in sin. God may delay His answer so He can help us see the need to confess wrongdoing and turn back.

Waiting on the Lord isn’t easy, faith is needed (Heb. 11:1). If an answer seems slow in coming, make sure that your focus is on Him, your motive for asking is God-honoring, and you aren’t practicing habitual sin. Then believe that God’s response will be for your good and His glory.

Indulging Weaknesses

Failure is temporary only if we call on the Lord for help.

Read: Judges 13:24-25

At salvation, a person becomes a brand-new creation and is set apart for God’s purposes. The Father has a specific plan for the life of every believer, and He provides each of His children with everything needed to accomplish it (2 Pet. 1:3).

When Israel was under Philistine rule, the people all “did as they saw fit” (Judg. 21:25). God ordained that Samson be set apart for service—as the one who would “begin to deliver Israel from the hands of the Philistines” (Judg. 13:5).

In preparation for that mission, the Lord gave Samson godly parents, an upbringing uncontaminated by the culture, and stunning strength. Greatly blessed as he matured, the young man became judge over Israel, with the authority to carry out God’s will.

Samson was equipped with everything necessary to fulfill his God-given purpose. However, he had a moral weakness that led to his downfall and the loss of his remarkable strength. As a result, Samson had to endure suffering that included imprisonment, torture, and ridicule by his enemies.

But ultimately, he turned in humility to God, who worked through him one final time.

Samson had enormous potential to do good on behalf of God. And so do we. Pray for the Lord’s help so you can stay focused on His plan and accomplish His will.

❤️ God Bless ❤️
