So far all is well in Bohoc, according to Liline! A lot of rain but no serious problems yet. That can however not be said about the southern peninsula. They have a lot of flooding. PLEASE pray for these folks! They went through all this in 2016 with hurricane Matthew and this is it all over again.

Today a positive post about our work in Haiti. for several years, Matthew 28 has organized a soccer tournament in the Pignon area.
This year, eight women's teams and eight men's teams, from all over Haiti, competed for the trophies, medals and scholarships.
Pastor Serges Guillaume, the husband of our director Judena "Liline" Guillaume, directed the tournament with no less than excellent results. The fans and the players were super excited during all the games, especially the finals.
Serges always takes the opportunity to preach about the Love of Jesus for all people. This message is so important in the setting of a country that is in violent chaos and where many people suffer every day from the resulting hunger.
Although the rain made playing sometimes difficult, the teams continued and the winners were announced during the award ceremonies.
The championship was made possible by a gift from a dear friend who loves the people of Haiti so much and who decided that even in these difficult times for our ministry, the games should go on!
Thank you for making this possible!

Look at the pictures and videos, and decide for yourself if this was a good time!

Yesterday Liline cooked rice and beans for 175 people. Some came to pick it up at the house, for most of them she brought it to the place where they are camping out. Many have slept outside and gotten wet from the rain. In the M28 court we have six people from two different families staying. Nini is there to take care of them. They were forced to leave their homes and have barely anything they could take along.
Imagine the place where many of you stayed now becoming a place of refuge for people displaced by war. I'm sure this will stir your heart.
The videos I have seen from Mirebalais are too upsetting. It is breaking my heart.
I am so proud of Liline being the arms and hands of Jesus to these poor people.
She described the situation as calm right now but people I spoke with are telling me they are scared. Please continue your prayers for them and for Haiti.

Just got off the phone with Liline, our director in Bohoc. She has been able to give food to about sixteen families. Thank God we received a container of food from Midwest Food Bank just two weeks ago and we could give them TenderMercies which are highly nutritious meals. She also gave them jars of peanut butter which will give them quick energy. The stories these refugees tell are heartbreaking. Several told that their houses had been burned down and they lost everything they had. Others had family members injured or killed by bullets. Some had to leave their families behind trying to save their own life.
Tomorrow morning Liline will cook food for them. Please continue to pray for them.

The situation in Haiti is developing for the worst. The city of Mirebalais is under siege and thousands have fled for the violence. In Bohoc at least 500 refugees arrived today and most of them have nowhere to go. At the same time the Dominican Republic has been expelling record numbers of Haitians. Please pray for all those, mostly women and children, who have nothing and are in fear of their lives. Think also about the many legal Haitians immigrants who are now asked to leave the USA. This is becoming a perfect storm in Haiti.

Are you worried about what happens in your life right now? Well consider this:

Since the early years of our school in Bohoc, we had a little down syndrome boy by the name of Mardoché. Some of you may have met him when we were there one day and we sat with him during the school lunch in the pavilion. He is the sweetest little guy. Wel in the meantime three more of his sibblings, one girl and two other boys have joined the school as well. Their family is very poor and the father had only occasional daylabor work helping in people's gardens. Late last week he passed away and now the mother is up to taking care of 5 kids ( one of which is in high-school, all by herself.
No government assistance! None! There are no programs for that in Haiti. The food programs of USAID are cut off.

Thank God we are able to help out with the expense of the funeral and thankfully four of the five kids eat lunch at our school. We also plan to give some food assistance to the mother.
The reason I share this story is that I'd like for you to be aware of the incredible suffering many Haitian people go through. This family is not an exception but it happens everywhere these days.
We cannot fix all the problems in Haiti nor in the world, but maybe we can see the proportions of our own worries in the light of what others have to go through.
A prayer for this family might be in place.

Just a few days ago our youngest daughter posted a picture of her two girls . It is a tradition she is proud of. Seeing their smiles while holding a little chalkboard with the the words “ First day of 6th or 8th grade” make me feel so good. But it is also the realization that they have the chance to go to school.
In my 33 years working in Haiti, I have learned to appreciate that right of education. Yes, in Haiti that is also a constitutional right but many children miss out on it anyway because there are not nearly enough schools. The schools that are available more often than not offer abysmal education. The parents have to pay high tuition and have to make a choice which of their children will go to school. Girls are passed over to allow boys to go, even when they are younger. Altogether it is terribly unfair. Matthew Twenty-Eight runs a school in Bohoc and I am so elated to tell you that we have reached the goal we set in 2013. We now offer 3 years of preschool and 6 years of elementary school. It took 10 year of hard work and planning, not to mention fundraising, to get it accomplished. A shout out for Lala who put so much of her time into it! We offer free education to the poorest kids in the neighborhood. The enrollment for the coming school year lists 98 girls and 75 boys. Thank you Lord! May their efforts in school be blessed!
Now of course it takes a lot of money to run the school from day to day. The teachers need to be paid, books and school supplies need to be purchased, copies need to be made. Oh well, you are so familiar with what it takes to run a school because it’s a part of our life here!
Did I mention the school lunches? Yes, we feed all our kids warm meals as they very often find nothing to eat at home.
And why do I tell you all this? Of course, we need supporters to help us pay for the wonderful and essential education of these kids.
Yesterday I did some calculations and with everything included it comes down to $ 375 per child. That includes feeding them for the entire year. Yes even during the vacations! Now that’s a good deal, right?
Are you willing to consider taking on some of this burden? Let us know if you are!

Today I received some sad news. A man, an icon on the roads of Bohoc, passed away. He got hit by a car on the road last night around six. He died in the hospital. Many of you have known this man who went by the name Bibit. He tirelessly walked the roads all day long. His bent over posture, stick in his hand, was impossible to miss. Every day he came into our courtyard for some food. Many times we made him a plate or sandwich depending on what was on the table. Some said his mind was long gone. He always repeated the same sentence in his conversation. Most people just let him ramble. "Movè tan deyo, nou bare" loosely translated by: Bad times out there we must stop doing this.
I don't know if I have it right but to me he always had the role of a misunderstood prophet. He had a message nobody paid attention to. He saw what was going wrong.
What caused his mind to go was always a mystery to me
Someone told me that long time ago he used to play the guitar. That got my attention and I let him play mine one day. He just sat there outside my little house and carefully plucked the strings. In no particular order but it brought a pensive smile to his face. He otherwise picked up random rocks and dropped them a few steps further. He also would stop and reverse his path walking backwards a few steps and then continue in the same direction again. It seemed to make no sense but to him somehow it did. If anything he gave all of us an opportunity to love our neighbor.
And now he is no more. He will be buried in the cemetery I suppose. Kind of like Eleanor Rigby.
Bibit you will be missed as you made the days have a sense of normalcy.

I wrote a little poem to not forget him.

Bibit

Bibit mw paka imajine Bohoc san w
Mw paka bliye saw dim toujou
Movè tan deyò fok nou bare
Wap janm bezwen di sa anko
W nan presans Jezi
Movè tan pat gen plas kot Li

Bibit, I can't imagine Bohoc without you
I can't forget what you always said
Bad times out there, we have to stop
You will never have to say that again
You're close to Jesus now
No room for bad things where He is.

There must be a picture of him somewhere in my files. Maybe I will find it maybe not. But he will be forever pictured in my mind.

Rest In Peace, Bibit
