Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

This Sunday, we explore the most debated theological concept in Christianity, the Trinity. How does this foundational component of our faith actually work? Why does the Eastern Orthodox church and the Western Church disagree on how the trinity works, still to this day? Why is there so much mystery in how the Trinity operates? In your own faith walk, how has the Trinity helped you walk with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit?

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community …

How are you? My apologies that this week has been challenging to get things out on time. Sleep has been difficult yet the dreams are over the top and in the end, I wake up exhausted. For all who are exhausted, may you be filled with God’s newness and energy. Today we consider the challenging of believing in oneself!

Ross Burach wrote 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑝𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐶𝑂𝑈𝐿𝐷
as a sequel to 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑉𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝐼𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑝𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑟. In this book, the new caterpillar does not believe he can fly 200 miles to find his friends. He ends up talking to a whale who encourages him to believe in himself. Believe in yourself. How does that statement make you feel?

There are many epidemics in this world but the largest and most pervasive one is the epidemic of not believing in one’s self. It is rooted in feeling not good enough and appears in life in a variety of forms. Where in your life do you not feel good enough?

All my life I have struggled with weight and exercise. Lately, I have discovered that many of my issues were due to the intense allergies of chemicals, mold and pollen. However, I remember in college and after college when I would attempt to jog a mile or two (never more), usually less than mid-way through I began wheezing and breathing heavily and my muscles would seize up. Yet I would push through and then be sick for days after. I never understood why people felt better after exercising. However, I remember many times as I picked up each foot at a pace that was more of a fast walk than a jog, reciting Philippians 4:13 – "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." When I would say that, repeatedly, it seemed I breathed a little better and picked up my feet more easily.

Believing and living out Philippians 4:13 is not easy. The world and life always focus on what we can’t do. Can you relate? Where have you been told you are not good enough? Or where have you told others that? In God, all are good enough and in Christ there is strength the world cannot provide. A strength that overcomes the negative thoughts that seem inescapable!

Believing and living out Philippians 4:13 is not easy and yet it is the call of the Christian! What will it take for you in your life challenges to live out Philippians 4:13?

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

This Sunday is Pentecost and we are worshipping at 10 am, coming together as one church and in doing this, we are living out Acts 2:1 – they were all together in one place. At 10 am on Sunday we will come together as one body (both in the building and virtually) to praise the Holy Spirit, to give thanks for and to experience the Holy Spirit! Come at 10 am in-person, face-to-face (or virtually) and worship well by praising, singing and praying!

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community ….

Annual Conference is in full swing! Continue to pray for all how are conferencing. Today’s devotion examines something all need at Annual Conference - patience!

𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
𝐽𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑠 1:2-4

Just be patient. I can remember those words echoing from my parents’ lips when we took the hour and half car drive to see my grandparents, as my parents smoked in the front and I would complain about how long the ride was. Just be patient I was told. Have you ever been told that or in fact said it?

The beginning of the book of James reminds us to embrace all challenges instead of being impatient. Impatience. Now that’s a word that summarizes much of life. Everyone has at some point in their life experienced impatience and anxiousness. Whether it is with the cat constantly at your feet wanting to be petted or played with or that child asking the same question 100 times expecting a different answer. Impatience is real. So, what does one do with impatience? Breathe? I don’t know about you, but breathing doesn’t always help me!

Ross Burach wrote The Very Impatient Caterpillar. In the book, this caterpillar is impatient to become a butterfly. The book focuses on the importance of being patient during times of challenges or growth. The caterpillar in essence doesn’t want to embrace the process of transformation. When have you been stubborn during a challenging time? When have you not embraced the challenge and instead was impatient?

Patience and growth are intricately interconnected. The more patient we are, the more growth can be embraced as a joy. The less patient we are and the more impulsive, the more growth is a burden. We have all been there. As you face the challenges in life, what will it take for you to be more patient?

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

Annual Conference for Greater New Jersey has begun, and to be a small part of the entire team that manages the conference is a blessing and an honor. In fact, each of you are integral to the St. Andrew’s Community in your prayers, service, witness, presence and gifts. This next year, the Bishop’s strategic intent is discipleship. How does St. Andrew’s UMC make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world? Every time you pray, every time you are present, every time you serve, every time you witness, and every time you give, you are making disciples! Let’s continue the work, sharing how much God is alive and how His abundance flows!
