Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

Sunday is the first day of summer. What does summer mean to you? Summer is about growth. Growth can be easy when all that is needed is present, such as a nurturing environment. For plants, a nurturing environment is the right balance of sun, warmth, rain and protection. Isn’t that how we grow spiritually with God – when there is the right balance of love, challenge, and safety? May this summer be a summer you grow spiritually with God and enjoy the balance you need of love, challenge and safety to grow in Christ.

𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲!
It is amazing and it warms my heart to hear the church and the kitchen buzzing with activity as the food is prepared to feed those in need in Kensington. Pray for those who receive the meal and for those who have prepared and serve. May God blanket each person with love and healing.

𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 – 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟐-𝟐𝟓 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟔:𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐦-𝟖:𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐦!
This is our last June event! Let’s make it a great one. Prayers are needed! We can always have more registrations! Spread the word! The flyer and link for registration are on our website’s homepage. Currently we have around 25 kids! What a blessing! In addition, all the supplies that were needed were provided. Your generosity is a blessing to those young children. Jesus said in Matthew 19:14 for the little ones to go to Jesus. Offering Vacation Bible School is a way to live out Matthew 9:14!

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

The middle of June is the time of all things bugs! Flies, moths, ants and other insects (and sometimes creatures) seek coolness and enter the home. Today we consider stillness regardless of what bug or insect is near!

𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜
𝑃𝑠𝑎𝑙𝑚 46:10(𝑎)
𝐵𝑒 𝑆𝑡𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝐾𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐼 𝑎𝑚 𝐺𝑜𝑑!

Don’t panic. Easier said than done when a spider is near you and you have entomophobia or acarophobia. Just writing the words make me shiver. Don’t panic. Easier said than done when there are too many bills and the paycheck won’t cover them all. Don’t panic. Easier said than done when the test results seem inconclusive and the possibilities are not good. Can you relate to any of these situations?

The Hebrew word for still is rāp̄â, which translates to sink, to drop, to let go, to relax. So, the psalmist is reminding the reader that no matter what is happening in their life or this world, they need to stop and literally sink down or drop down and let go of their worries and concerns and know God Is! Easier said than done, right? Can you do what the psalmist suggests? Can you just let go of your worries, concerns, hurts, and angers? The psalmist makes it sound so easy and yet it seems the hardest to do!

However, when I just stop and be still, still not in no movement, but still in sinking down and letting go of my worries and concerns and focus on God being God, things seem lighter. Have you experienced this?

I don’t suffer from migraines but sometimes I can get headaches that last a day or two and are accompanied by dizziness, nausea, light sensitivity and an overall feeling of malaise. The more I fight to go on with my day, the harder it is. But when I can, I just be still. Stillness, that has a foundation that things will be OK, and the headache seems to lessen. I wonder if that is why the Psalmist wrote this Psalm?

Where in your life today do you need to be still and know that God is God?

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

Yesterday, June 14, commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag design in 1777. You can read more about Flag Day here - https://www.britannica.com/topic/Flag-Day/. It is important to remember! Jesus knew that, and it is recorded in Luke 22:18-20 and in 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 that Jesus reminded us to remember what He did every time we partake in communion. Remember. In the midst of your challenges today, do you take time to remember what Jesus did for you? In the midst of your worries and concerns today, do you take time to remember what God does for you? May this be a week of pauses in which you remember what Jesus did and what God does.

𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮!
The Friday prayer at Walmart went very well. There was an entire program that we were part of and it was amazing to be the church in the community to offer a blessing to a store. Karen Deal, Pastor Fay and the Stoltzfus’s recorded it and I am sure they will be willing to show you. Thank you for all your support and prayer for this community connection.

The Saturday program was attended by 27 of which 17 were children. One may think that is not a lot of people and yet 2 families with 7 children attended church on Sunday! In addition, 2 families signed up for VBS. That makes the Family Shenanigans event a success. Thank you to all those who volunteered, cooked, organized, cleaned up, and supported the program financially and with your prayers.

We are an active church that is here to stay and be a beacon of love and hope to this community!

Hi St. Andrew’s UMC Community….

The weather may be oppressive and hot and staying cool can be challenging. However, ministry to our church community and the local community continues – regardless of the weather. Tomorrow, we in the community, standing side-by-side, will be offering a prayer at Walmart. May those who are present experience God in their heart. Saturday, we have our next family event with free breakfast. May children and families experience God in a real way during the event. And then we have VBS! May all who are part of VBS experience God’s love and care. Let us be “the church” to this community!
